Library Displays Mementos
Of Late President Sparks
As the twenty-third year approaches since the death of Edwin E.
Sparks, former president of the College, members of the Library
staff felt it appropriate to place a few of the mementos of his life on
display. >
According to Mrs. Cromer, who is responsible for the exhibit, it
has been long accepted that Dr.
Sparks formulated an era reputed
to be one of the most illustrious
in the history of the College.
The pxhibit begins at the center
right of the lobby. The first case
contains mementos of' his, youth
showing his early McGuffey
reader and boyhood pictures. The
pfolliems which confronted Dr.
SPafks when he was a college
student are depicted in his diary.
And in his last years aS president
emeritus, he gives advice to the
young men and women of,Amer
ica on these same problems which
he had faced and learned to solve.
Both of these writings are ex
hibited in the first case.
The second case is entitled
“Later Formative Years.” Here
ere displayed pictures of his old
girls and a program from a Chi
Phi banquet at which he, as a
member of the fraternity, spoke
on “Women, the Cause of All Our
Trouble and the Source of All Our
Joy.” Following this is the picture
of his wife and the write up of
their marriage written in the
quaint style of the nineties.
Material concerned with Dr.
Sparks and his life at the College
are shown in the last six cases. In
