FRIDAY, MAY 23, 1947 Methodist Coeds Organize Local Kappa Phi Chapter Kappa Phi, a social sorority for Methodist college women, is or ganizing a Penn State chapter, according to Ann Berkhimer, a graduate student in education and religious, director of the Wesley Foundation. College women with member ship in,, or preference to the Methodist Church, are eligible for membership, regardless of other panhellenic affiliations, Miss Berkhimer ■ stressed. The group have received the approval of Acting Dean of Wo men Pearl O. Weston an‘d Presi dent Ralph D. Hetzel. The Kappa Phi Club must have a member ship of 35 women and remain a local organization for six months before they join the national group. Founded at the University of Kansas, in 1916, Kappa Phi Club now includes 29 chapters at col leges and universities all over the United States. Faculty sponsor for the local group will be Miss Mary-Frances Gregory, College Personnel assis tant. Mrs. Laura Benner, Kappa Phi alumna from the University of Pittsburgh, will be the club’s partoness. Mortar Board Plans Tapping Ceremonies Mortar Board, national senior women’s activities honorary, will tap 11 women at dawn Tuesday, Jean Harrington, 'president, said today. Clad in traditional black gowns and hats, Mortar Board will ser enade this semester’s tappees by candlelight between 111 p.m. and midnight Monday, she added. New members will be enter tained ‘at breakfast following the tapping ceremonies. , To be eligible for Mortar Board, a weman must have shown serv ice. scholarship, and leadership throughout her- college career, must have a scholastic average three-tenths of a point above the current all-collage average, and must be registered sixth or sev enth semester. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVANIA No 3 O'Clocks Says WSGA “It is impossible for WSGA to grant a 3 a.m. late permission for the dance tonight,” said Su zanne Romig, WSGA president. “The closing hours of dances are determined by the Studeiit Wel fare Committee of the College Senate, and it is the custom of WSGA to rule that the late per mission hour for coeds be one hour after the dance ends.” It was brought to the attention of the Collegian that the tradition of a 3 a.m. permission was dis continued during the war. Prev ious to that it was granted for major weekends. Intramufols Atherton. Kappa- Alpha Theta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma were winners in the three WRA soft ball games played this week. Atherton dawned ChiO by a score of 4-1. Anita Geiger pitched for the winning team and Claire Parks for the lasers. Catchers were Sally Hostetter for Atherton and Jane Jordan for ChiO. The winning combination for the KD’s was Betty Hain, pitcher, and Shirley-' Mathews, catcher. The KKG’s, with Jane McCor mick on the mound and Dorothy Huber behind the plate, were de feated 5-1 by the KD’s. In a close game the KATheta’s topped the AOPi’s 16-13. Pitching for the AOPi’s was Dean Brown, with Jean Alderfer as her catcher. Ann Forncrook started pitchiing for the KAThetas, was replaced by Mary Barnett, and then re turned to the mound to finish the game. Virginia Higgins caught for the losing team. Cwens To Sell Poppies For American Legion Owens, sophomore women’s honorary, will be the sole dis tributors of the official American Legion poppy on campus, said Sally Henry, Owen president. AH poppies were obtained from Penn sylvania Veterans Hospitals. Sales wiH be made at . the Mor tar Board carnival Saturday after noon and all day at numerous lo cations on campus. Donations of 10 cents or more wM be asked for each poppy. In State College poppies will be sold by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliary.
