in New Rochelle, N. Y., the jump

dozen of the nation’s top-flight
bandleaders.
He w£is so successful there that
the casino, traditionally a summer
spot, broke the precedent by
keeping its doors open for the
•winter season to accommodate
Spivak’s extended “by popular
request” contract.
He later broke Glenn Miller’s
and Jimmy Dorsey’s records at
the Hotel Pennsylvania’s Cafe
Rouge and the Hotel Commodore.

In their assigned rooms at 7:30
p. m., Thursday, entrants will
speak for five qjinutes without
notes. One person frqpi each sec
tion will speak in the semi-finals
in 121 Sparks at approximately 8
Pi m. the same evening. The ori
ginal topic must be used.
•The six participants chosen
from the semi-finals will speak in
the finals in 10 Sparks at 7:30
p. m., Friday. Finalists must se
lect a new topic, in conference
with Professor Schug, in his of
fice, 311 Sparks, by apipointment.
Final speeches will be eight to
ten minutes in length and must be
delivered without notes.
This event is more than a half
century old. It was recently re
named in honor of Dr. Frizzell,
the first head of the speech de
partment at the College, who re
tired with emeritus rank on June
30, 1946 after nearly 45 years of
teaching.
