Horace Ashen,feller pounded across the finish lino in 4:20.0, his best time to dale. In Chick Werner’s earlier time trials the three milers finished to gether. and when Ashenfelter led the way Saturday, Karver was tramping on his heels with Stone close l ©hind. Another time-trial standout per formance was Dave Pincus’ 14'4- foot discus heave, five feet better than his first attempt which Coach Werner said was as good as any to be found in trials throughout the country. In the pole vault, Chuck Willing again topped 1'2.6 and Brawn du plicated' this performance. Milt Stemler continued to be encourag ing by repeating* his earlier 12- fioot trial mark. Bill Reynolds did; six feet on the high lump, and javelinist Tubby Lang increased his very competent previous trial mark of 1(82,1 to 185.5 feet. In the javelin also, Lou Barti letti, freshman up from* th fi Al toona center, threw for 178 feet and Pratt marked hiis toss at 170. Mitch Williams took first in the quarter mile, finishing in 5)1.5, while Jack Hissey, who with Johnny Gray won the earlier trial in 53, broke the tape in a dead heat with Gray and Cliff St. Clair in 512 seconds flat. Charlie Krug did 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump and con tinued to lead thn shot putters with a mark of 46 feet.
