Courtmen Seek 3rd Win
Against Bucknell Tonight
Coach John Lawther’s basketball team leaves today for Lewisburg
where they hope to put the damper on Bucknell’s hopes t'or a vic
tory in the Bison’s first game of the season.
The same starting quintet that has sparked the Lions to impressive
wins over Susquehanna and Georgetown, will probably take the
floor for Penn State tonight. Jack Biery—high scorer and offensive
spark plug—and diminutive Milt Simon will team up on the forward
line, while Captain Dave Hornstein will take his customary place
at center. In the guard positions, Johnny Rusinko and Jim Lawther
will fight it out with the Bisons for possession of the ball off the back
boards.
Collegian today- publishes a partial schedule of varsity sports
•event on the Winter calendar. Schedules for varsity .swimming,
.gymnastics, ice,hockey, r fencing and skiing will be' published as
soon as they are released by the 'Athletic Office.
Bucknell, although untried so
far this season, looms' as a top
contender for the Middle Atlan
tic Conference honors. And with
three players topping the 6’3”
mark, the home team will have a
height advantage over the invad
ing Nittany Lions.
Leading the Herd will be Lou
Desci and Bob Williams. Desci
was one of the standouts of last
year’s Harvard NCAA Tourna
ment team, netting over 300 points
for the Cantabs during the regu
lar season and- accounting for 20
alone in the NCAA meet. He pick
ed up seven against Ohio State
and added 13 the following night
against NYU.
Although he p.layed center for
Harvard, Desci will place his 6’3”
under the basket at guard against
the Lions. Williams, 6’4”, returns
to the center post tonight for the
Bisons. He was selected All-State

The Comets racked up their se
cond win in the independent in
tramural -basketball tourney Mon
day as they trounced a game Dorm
5 outfit 28-15. Each team had re
gistered a previous win in the first
round, tout the Comets, paced by
Gates and his eight counters,
proved the superior squad.
In the fraternity bracket, Pi
Kappa Alpha, Alpha Tau Omega,
Delta Upsilon “B”, Beta Sigma
Rho, and Phi Sigma Delta re
corded victories for the second
straight time. Phi Kappa Sigma
balanced its record at 1-1 as it de
feated Phi Sigma Kappa 21-12.
Ralleks decisioned the Eagles
18-46 in a closely contested strug
gle, as Ackerman starred on the
offense. In the final independent
match, Nittany Co-op fell before
the Ramblers 22-7.
