opinions on the controversy. They
were asked these two questions:
Are you in favor of Penn State
retaining the three-semester-a
year program?
Would you attend another sum
mer semester?
Charles R. Wilson, 3rd. "I am in
favor of a three semester program.
Being an ex-GI, and having been
out of school for a long time,
would like to finish school as soon
as possible."
Douglas Geier, 6th. "I do not think
that the three semester plan is too
good. One does not learn as much
because there is not as much time
given
.to any one subject. I would
not spend another whole summer
semester here at Penn State."
Irwin S. Monsein, 6th. "I'm an ex-
GI and we need and want to finish
soon. Some of us are getting pretty
old."
Norman Hardy, Ist. "I am in
favor of three semesters •a year be
cause the weather is much nicer.
I would attend another summer
semester if they have one."
Ephriam Catsiff, Bth. "No, I've
been through two summer semes
ters here, and one at Drexel. The
strain is too much, and you can't
work as well in the summer. I
would never do it over again."
Gerry Brown, 3rd. "I am not in
favor of the three semester plan
and would not come back another
summer."
Bob Yurkanin, Bth. "I think they
should retain the present program
for two years, speaking from the
ex 'Gl's viewpoint. But the faculty
is being overworked and it doesn't
do the students any good to change
profs during the semester. When
the ex-GI problem is solved and
the majority of freshmen are right
out of high school, we Should go
back to the old program."
Daniel Podell, sth. "I am in favor
of three semesters a year. Many of
us have had our college life in-

Register
"Have you signed the register,
sir?" asks a pretty cashier, and an
other serviceman reaches for pen
and ink to put his name to a new
innovation in the Corner Room,
the Servicemen's Register.
Alongside his name, the GI or
ex-GI. as the case may be, is asked
for his rank, outfit, State College
address, phone number, date of
signature, and how long he ex
pects to be in State College. Ap
proximately 40 signatures have al
ready been recorded and an alpha

that you may consult it for the

terruPted and then have come
back. Three semesters a year will
enable us to get out into the work
ing world sooner."
Vaughan !Stapleton, 7th. "I am
definitely in favor of going back
to the two semester plan. [Now, it
is too much school. The profs as
well as the students need a rest.
The two semester plan gives you
an incentive to work harder."
Abe Levy. 3rd. "tLooking at it from
the viewpoint of a veteran or the
older student entering as a fresh
man, I think the summer semester
has its advantages. This is my
third straight semester and I per
sonally don't think it has created
any 'study fatigue.' As far as I'm
concerned the number of civilian
students who have attended the
summer semester is proof enough
that it should be continued. Look
ing at it from the viewpoint of an
overworked faculty, I can under
stand why the question should be
given much consideration. Let's
hear what they have to say about
it."
Gene Fulmer, Ist. "Yes, I am in
favor of it and I think it will help
the ex-Gls who are far behind in
their education. The education
emergency began in 19411, and it
still prevails, if not more so. ,How
ever, it is true that the faculty has
been. over-taxed the past four
years."
Sid Eboch, sth. "I don't favor the
three semester plan, 'but I would
go next summer because it will
get me cut sooner. I should think
the 'College would consider the
four-quarter plan. This enables a
student to acquire the same.
`amount of schooling, but provides
more varied work advantages."
Howard Kleidman, 3rd. "No, I am
not in favor of the retention of the
three semester plan. I find that at
tending school without one ex
tended vacation a year is quite a
strain, especially after a four-year
break from schooling before com
ing to Penn State. During wartime,
the summer enrollment has been
small, and a summer semester
next year would undoubtedly be
even less successful. Then again,
the three semester plan does not
coincide with the schedule of other
colleges, or high schools. Give the
teachers a break too, they need
it!"
Jack Strickland, 3rd. "I am not in
favor of the accelerated program
because going to college continu
ously becomes very monotonous
and too much interest is lost."
Dave Lundy, 6th. "No, it splits
classes up and .some will attend
the summer semester and some
won't. The profs go on vacation
in the middle of the semester and
the substitute instructor repeats
material, and sometimes, doesn't
cover it at all on the assumption
that it has been covered. However,

party of the semester will be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Jewel ißaronoff is chairman of
the committee which has planned
a varied program of entertainment
for the afternoon. There will be
several musical numbers and a

program. GSO hostesses will be on

ments will be served.

Only Three More Sundays

I would attend another summer
semester."
Florence Zankel, Bth. "Everyone is
pretty tired out, the professors too.
You can get a better education
with two semesters and a vacation
than. with the present system.
However, I believe some arrange
ment should be made for veter
ans."
Rosemarie Crock, 6th. "Since the
boys have been out of school so
long, the school should stay open
during the summer for two 01
three more years. Yes, I woul6
come for another summer semes
ter."
Dee Portnoy, sth. "It should be of
fered for those who want to take
it and feel they can stand the
work. This is already my second
summer semester."
Margaret A. Green, 4th. "No, it's
too tiring. Staying out a semester
causes one to lose too much. I
wouldn't come .back as my grades
prove a vacation is very profit
able."
June First, 6th. "I don't think that
the accelerated program should be
'continued unless for the benefit of
the ex-servicemen. Even then the
students and faculty would be so
tired they could not do their best.
I would definitely no.t come back
for another summer semester."
Ann Patterson, 4th. "I like the
three semester plan becaUse the
servicemen coming back won't
want to spend the regular time in
college. They'll want to get out as.
soon as possible. I would definite
ly come back for another summer
semester."
