Urges Panhel
Freshman women and transfer
students interested in Joining a
Sorority are urged by Panhellenic
Council to attend as many of the
sorority open houses as possible
from 2 until 4 o'clock tomorrow
afternoon, President Jean Weaver
stated.
' "This is their last opportunity
to show that they are interested
in becoming a sorority member,"
Miss Weaver emphasized.
Personal invitations will not be
issued to the coeds by any sorority
member. Silent period is still in
effect and it is understood that all
women interested in joining soror
ity arc invited to attend.
It is a Panhellenic ruling that
all guests leave at four o'clock. A
house will be penalized for any
guests found staying overtime.
Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sig
ma Delta Tau are not eligible to
hold this last open house because
of their violations of the Panhel
lenic code last year.

WSGA Exceeds Goal
Of Christmas Drive
WSGA has exceeded its goal of
$450 in its annual Christmas drive,
announced Mary Margaret Dun
lap, chairman of the drive. All do
nations have not been collected,
but a total of at least $5OO is ex
pected, which will make this the
most successful drive ever con
ducted.
Sparking the 'drive are, Kather
ine Fix, publicity chairman, and
Rcse Devecka, who directed the
advertising of the drive through
posters.
The donations will be divided
among three projects to which
WSGA has made its annual con
tribution for five years. These pro
jects are the Mifflin County Chil
dren's Aid .Society, American
Women's Hospitals, and Mrs:'Het
zel's fluid for emergencies.

For WSGA Senate Posts
Arloa Betts, Jeanne Faust, E
laine Mittelman, Doris Artenger
and Phyllis James were nominat
ed for freshmen senate posts at
primary elections held in Old
Main yesterday. Coeds were se
lected from a list compiled by
WSGA and WRA and supplemen-'
ted by a mass meeting where no
minations were presented froin
the floor.
Final elections will be held. in
Old Main from 9 a. m. to 12 noon
Monday. One senator will be
elected for first semester, and one
for second. Misses Betts, Fat*
and Mittelman •will compete for
first semester senator and Miss
Artenger and James vie for the
second semester post.
The, original plan was to have
two candidates for each' semester
office, but the voting yesterday
produced a tie for 'first semester
senator. All first and •second se
mester freshman :Women will be
eligible to vote Monday.

Hall dining commons has been the
recent step forward in the life of
Mrs. Carroll Barton, the former
ratricla Diener.
Mrs. Barton, former president
of WSGA, has,,been working as an
assistant dietitian in McAllister
Hall dining-room since July. At
present she is supervising the
work in the coeds' section .of the
dining commons. She is.in charge
of the three men and three coeds
employed — in that' section to help
serve and clear the table S..
' "I liked State, was fond of the
people here, and wanted to: work
with students," stated'Mrs. 'Barton
when asked why she:accepted this
position just after her graduation
in June.
While a student at the College,
Mrs. Barton Vas one of five coeds
chosen by the home economics d&
partment to spend her'seventh se
mester studying at• the .Merrilf-
Palmer Child Developnient School;

Mrs. Barton started early in
campus student government. She

bakery when necessary.
According to both Mrs. Barton
and Miss Idti M. Parent, super
visor of McAllister dining com
mons, the coeds eating there are
very cooperative as are the 360
sailors who eat there at present.
At one time the hail served as
many as 6132 V-12er's at each
meal.
"We try to vary our menus• so
as . not to serve the same combina
tions more than once every three
weeks," stated Mrs. Barton, "but it
is quite a difficult task because
of the amount of juggling the ra
tion points require." She added,
"Since I've seen this problem
from both sides I feel more sym
pathetic toward the dietitians pro
blem, although as a student I too
did
,my share of complaining."
