700 New Students
Arrive On Campus
Glass’of '4B Assembles
At Frosh Mass Meeting
Approximately 700 new stu
dents arrived on campus Tuesday
to fohri the class of 1948. They
assembled in Schwab Auditorium
Tuesday night for . a welcome
mass meeting.
Immediately following the
mass meeting, freshman men
students met with their student
counselors to discuss various
phases of campus and classroom
life. Counselors headed by Guy
Newton, chairman, included Mich
a'el Lyiich, Joseph Krug, Charles
Alcorn, William Kelly, Frederick
Dietz, James Hugo, James Ray,
Robert Gleichart, and. Paul Pioth.
At this time freshman coeds
were welcomed at a circus in the
Armory sponsored by PSCA.
Highlighting the program of
games and refreshments was Natt
er Harrington wearing the Lion
costum'e and tumblers from State
College High School.
Deans and department heads
addressed the group at a convo
cation in Schwab Auditorium
Wednesday morning. Then the
newcomers met with their indi
vidual faculty advisors. The re
mainder of the day was spent in
taking psychology, English and
physical examinations and at
song arid cheer practice led by
Prof. Hummel Fishburn.
Student leaders spoke at a
mass meeting Wednesday night
and James T. Smith, general sec
retary of PSCA, and town mini
sters addressed the incoming
freshmen last night. A get-ac
qhainted- gathering in the form of
a cider and doughnut party was
sponsored by PSCA for freshman
irien Wednesday night.
X-6-1 Members 16 Help
Veterans ai the College
In order to help ex-servicemen
orient therriselves to life oh cam
pus, members of the X-G-I Club
will station themselves at the
Armory during registration today
arid tomorrow. They will wear
arm bands or some other recog
nizable insignia.
Any freshman veteran may go
without custorns pending a decis
ion by Tribunal, J. Paul Pioth,
president of the X-G-I Club, said
today. He also urged any veteran
who is under 20 to wear customs
so that the process of orientation
may be speeded up.
ROTC is not required of any
veteran who has spent 90 days or
more in seryice. There is no mass
exemption from the physical ed
ucation program. Each case is in
dividual. The veterans should
consult Prof. Robert Galbraith,
their advisor.
The next meeting of the X-G-I
Club will be at the American
Legion Home, Nittanjr arid Pugh
streets, Thursday night.
PSCA to Stage Dinner
For Forum Unit Leaders
PSCA will give a dinner for all
unit leaders who will organize the
first semester coeds into the
Freshman Women’s Forum at the
State .College Hotel, 12:30 p. m.,
Sunday.
All coeds receiving invitations
are urged to reply to Betty Far
