SMAIRT SHOP THE COLLEGIAN Dr. Smith Suggests Psychology Course For Fighting Men A widespeard adaptation of the Nazi troop indoctrination techni que to American standards was proposed here today as "the one direct, sure method of keeping homesickness and low morale a way from our fighting men." The proposal was made by Dr. Kinsley Smith, who has instituted a special course in war psychology for both the military trainees and civilian students at the College. The psychology professor belie ves that special sessions should be conducted for servicemen on ex actly what the enemy is like, what he believes, what he hates, and what .he hopes to accomplish. The Germans have been doing it for years, he pointed out, and though lies and misrepresentati ons have been their chief weap_ ons, the results have been pow erful. He proposes adopting the Nazi's general pattern •of instruc tion—but substituting straight from-the-shoulder facts for the lies and half-lies. "Our morale is good now," Dr. Smith explained, "but like any fighting weapon, it can be improv ed and fortified for the future." The American is fighting today, the Penn State professor reasoned, because he apprediates his home— land and his freedom, and has a vague notion that it's better 'than the Nazi governmental system. "Make him more aware," he suggests, "that he is away from home to perform the only job that can make his home safe from Axis 'oppression, and give him accurate information about what' the enemy wants that oppression to be like, and you'll have an ar my of • fighting men armored a gainst homesickness and low mo rale. under any and all conditi- •k. 1 14 LAFAYETTE- LOUGH FOOTBALL SERIES, BEGUN IN 1884, IS THE OLDEST N THE UKIITF-D STATE S.
