Bedraggled green ribbons and name cards have been stow ed' away as remembrances of the freshman year, or perhaps tossed unceremoniously into the nearest waste basket. Frosh coeds. won the tug-or-war Saturday. , - The turnout "for this event, which should have meant a lot to the frosh, was fart from adequate. As for sophomore' opposition, it was practically nil. We are not wholly 'blaming the upperclassmen for not . participat ing. It was the duty of each freshman to bring along some op position no matter how large, or small.. Ilowever, many of the green-decked . coeds could not find anyone who was willing to give up a few minutes to fight against removal of customs. Weren't the sophomores willing to participate? Perhaps *the .frosh felt that it they failed to bring along an op ponent, their team" would have a better chance to win. However,. referees evened' up 'the teams, leaving, some of the frosh to cheer. Before the start of the fraCas, an appeal was made over the mi crophone for any .upperclass wo men in..the grandkands to join the : tug-of-war. There was no re sponse. Onlookers - could not be blamed,. however. Who wanted to *leave her date, get down in the mud in' her bare feet, and strain a few muscles? This idea of WSGA's seems like a good way to decide the fate of customs. We commend them on following' the lead taken by the - men. In the future, though, it might 'be a good idea for WSGA to make more adequate prepara tion. Maybe lack of support should be chalked up to one more cas ualty to be blamed on a big week end. Next time try it when every One • isn't quite so tired. Dames To Hear Talk Nelson W. Taylor, head of the department of ceramics, will speak to Summer Dames, wives of Sum mer graduate students, on "Cer amics in the Home" in 121 Min eral Industries at 3:10 p. m. to morrow.
