Prior to last year, freshman co eds who wished to participate in WSGA activities or serve on com mittees had to wait for the pow ers, namely WSGA Senate, to go through the rostrum and choose participants at random. With the inauguration of a peti tion system, each new student was able to list the particular phase of activity in which she was in terested and would be willing to serve. When the time came to choose committees, these lists were chosen accordingly. A new freshman class is about to arrive on campus. Many of them will be eager to serve in coed government. Senate has realized the advance in demo cratic goverhment which the new system has promoted, and will continue it this semester. Not only is the petition system more democratic, but committees act more efficiently when students . who have a real...interest in parti cipation are allowed to state their preferences. By that method Senate can be assured of more smoothly-running committees sin cerely interested in their work. We suggest that Senate, having tried and proved this addition during the past year, expand the petition system. WSGA House" of Representatives could take a poll of interest in student government work and thereby add another step toward more completely dem ocratic women's government. Home Economics reading room will be_ open during the Summer semester from 2 to 5 p. m. Sun 'days. The front door will be open. Reading room will be clos ed Saturday afternoons.
