Eight-Year Undefeated Streak
NINTH STRAIGHT season of un

burg on October-4.

THE DAILY COLLEGIAN
Jeffrey Optimistic
About Squad's Chances
Nine undefeated seasons—the
greatest record in collegiate his
tory—Will be the mark that Penn
State's eight soccer opponents at
tempt to break this year.
Ever since the day in 1932 when
the Syracuse booters downed the
Nittany - Lions 2-1, the record has
remained unblemished.
Bill Jeffrey's teams won 61
games and tied 4 since the game
against the Orange. They have
amassed a total of 255 points
against their opponents meagre 31.
The Jeffreymen weren't scored
upon for an entire season-1.935
and remained that way the next
year until villainous SyraLse
broke the ice on October 31: 1936.
As for the chances of another
undefeated season this year, the
Wily Scbt was optimistic. With
Dick Dearborn, a reserve fulliclack,
the only one not heard from yet,
the draft has not hit the Lion
booters too harshly.
The soccer mentor will have a
tough time replacing Captain Walt
Hosterman, Van Hartman, , and
Don Durain, but last year's frosn
team will afford plenty of new
talent.
Captain Woody King, Don Me
grail, Ned Corman, and Hap Free
man, all regulars last year, will
form the nucleus of this year's
team. The status of Gazzy Green,
another of last year's starters, is
still uncertain, although Jegrey
thinks he will return.
• Last year the Lions won eight
contests and were awarded the
Eastern intercollegiate title for
the eighth time, sharing honors
with Prineton for the second
consecutive year.
Colgate has replaced Western
Maryland in the only change of
schedule from last year's slate to
this year's.
'4O reams Record

centage.
Two varsity and eight frosh

of the past seven years by finish
ing up with another unblemished
slate, while the indoor track team
