Mary Browne Holds Belief
in Self Is Success Factor
"Everyone has potentialities to
do anything he wants if he works
hard enough," asserted Mary K.
Browne, former national singles
and doubles tennis champion, in
an interview Saturday night.
"Belief in ones' power and cos
mic self, along with determina
tion, is necessary to achieve," the
Lae Erie College teacher went
on, bubbling with energy, even
after another full day of tennis.
Miss Browne has been proving
this by her accomplishments,
especially in the past few years,
when she studied portrait paint
ing with remarkable success and
mastered Liszt's "Hungarian
Rhapsody" on a wager. Within
five years she had sold $9OO
worth of pictures, and within 300
practice hours she developed her
piano technique.
"Each spring I am a guest in
structor at five women's colleges
for one week. I'd rather talk
philosophy, but I teach tennis,"
she grinned. Golf, painting, and
battleboard, a variation of ten
nis, fill the rest of my time."
Former captain of the Wight
man Cup Team, Miss Browne in
1924 also reached the finals in
women's golf. Last year she
