Phi Eta Sigma Plans To In
Grafinger To Receive
Annual Senior Award
Phi Eta Sigma, freshman
men's honorary society, has re
leased the names of 50 students
who have been accepted as ini
tiates.
Phi Eta Sigma will induct the
new members at the annual
banquet initiation ceremonies in
the State College Hotel banquet
room at 6:30 tonight.
Edward Steidle, dean of the
Mineral Industries School, will
be initiated as honorary mem
ber of Phi Eta Sigma for 1941
and will be the principal speak
er at the banquet tonight.
Dr. Harrison H. Arnold, pro
fessor of Spanish, will receive
the societies' Research Award
medal that is given .to a faculty
member who, in the estimation
of a faculty committee, has
done notable research over a
period of years without any ap
preciable subsidy.
The Senior Award will be
presented to Louis N. Grafinger
'4l, on the recommendation of
a faculty committee. This
award is given annually to a
member of Phi Eta Sigma in
the graduating class who merits
the distinction by his All-Col
lege scholastic average and ex
tra-curricular activities.

AA Amendment Would
Eliminate Pieo
Amendments limiting sport
eligibility to eight semesters and
establishing the numeral award
as an Athletic Association award
will be presented at the May AA
elections, May 13, Jack W.
Brand '4l, president, announced
yesterday.
Both amendments were ap
proved by the Athletic Advisory
Board in February. The eligibil
ity rule would eliminate - all ath
letes who have attended college
more than eight semesters
among them Roman Pieo, gym
captain-elect. The numeral
change transfers financial re
sponsibility for the awards from
the interclass funds to the AA
funds. Requirements continue
as listed in the Freshman Hand
book.
Twelve Students Added
To Liberal. Arts Council
Twelve Liberal Arts students,
two from the department of jour-
nalism, five from commerce and
finance, and five from arts and
letters, were elected to the Lib
eral Arts Student Council last
night,"%according to Richard C.
Peters, president.

club's meeting Sunday night.
