The Lions performed creditably
over the weekend considering
they tackled the two topnotch tens
in the country. Inexperience and
lack 'of previous competition prov
ed their undoing in both battles
which saw the Nittanymen off to
a slow start in the first half and
put up a stout defense in the final
two periods.
Navy had little trouble spilling
the green Nittany stickmen, 13-4,
Saturday. The Middies, scoring in
every period, registered a 3-0 lead
by the end of the first quarter, and
led the Lions 7-1 by the end of the
first half.
The. Thielmen's initial tally
came late in the second period
when Jim Riddell, Lion out home,
took a pass from Al Blair, veteran
center, who has returned after a
year's absence, and scored smartly
on a difficult angle shot.
Blair himself scored twice for
the Lions in the second half, and
Captain Bud Dattlebaum added a
fourth marker.
A second setback was handed
the Lions on Monday when they
