Scarab Plans Arts Ball;
Elects 5 New Officers
Plans for the annual Beaux
Arts Ball to be held' May 17
■were discussed and elections of
officers were held Monday night
by the members of Scarab, na
tional honorary architectural
fraternity.
Charles S. Bicksler ’4l and
James I. May ’42 were appoint
ed co-chairmen for the ball.
Selection of an orchestra was
also discussed, but no definite
plans resulted. ,
Newly elected officers of the
fraternity are Warren D. Zeig
ler ’42, president; Raymond T.
Entenmann ’42, vice-president;
Clarence B. Monk Jr. ’42, trea
surer; James I, May ’42, secre
tary; and Melvin Anderson ’42,
historian.

central Pennsylvania will vie
for district posts in the annual
music competition sponsored by
the department of music here
today and tomorrow. All pro
grams are open to the public.
Winners of these eliminations
will meet other district repre
sentatives .in the state finals in
New Castle on April 18 and 19
under sponsorship of the Penn
sylvania Forensic and Music
League.
Dr. Arthur . Stull, superinten
dent of schools of Cambria
County is chairman for the dis
trict assisted by Richard' W.
Grant, director of music and
Hummel Fishbum, associate
professor of music education,
who are in charge of local ar
rangements.
Judges include Frank Gullo,
assistant professor of music,
George W. Henninger and Mrs.
Willa W. Taylor, instructors in
music, and Lowell Boorse, di
rector of music at the Dubois
Undergraduate Center.

Lynn Gardner’s individual

audition, and she is now headed
for future success as his own

After beginning her singing
career less than a year ago on
a local New Jersey radio sta
tion, she got her .first job in a
New Jersey night club and was
there spotted by Bradley’s man
ager, three months ago.
Jimmie Rich, vocal coach who
aided to fame such stars as
Dinah Shore, Bea Wain, Barry
Wood, and Nan Wynn, gave
Lynn her first vocal training.
Lynn’s interpretation of Cole
Porter’s new hit “Fresh as a
Daisy,” which she will sing at
IF Ball tonight, accompanied by
drummer Ray McKinley, has
gained a reputation for her.
