We, The Women
Recreational Activities
Outstanding In 1940-41
Women's Recreation Associa
tion can look to its record of ach
ievements this year with deserv
ed approval, for not only have
projects been more numerous,
but they have also attracted
greater participation.
Co-Eecrealion Day, in which
150 men and women engaged in
combined athletics, the hockey
clinic conducted by the U.S. Field
Hockey Touring Team, and the
basketball conference were major
fall events.
The annual Christmas Party
for school children conducted by
XVRA’s sports clubs in conjunc
tion with local social agencies
probably brought the most satis
faction to coed committees.
A Second Camp Counsellor's
Conference, emphasizing arts and
crafts, games, and songs indicat
ed an increasing interest in
camping. The annual Sweet
heart’s Dance, army-navy hockey
tilt, swimming meets, and tele
graphic matches were other out
standing projects. ’
The Nativity Dance and par
ticipation of coed dancers in
•Player’s presentations and with
W. H. Auden, British poet, are
worthy of the commendations
■given them.
More fraternity and indepen
dent team participation and few
er defaults marked the intra
mural tournaments in hockey,
basketball, badminton, ping pong,
and bowling.
Club activities to stimulate
coeds have been broadened
through Saturday night Open
Houses, tournaments, and prac
tice sessions, all aiding whole
some recreation.
Variety Club expanded its pro
gram to the extent that separate
groups in bridge, bowling, and
badminton were organized. Elig
ibility rules for Honorary Bad
minton Club made for proficiency
in that sport,
With a full spring program
still 'to look forward to, we feel
WRA can term the 1940-41 pro
gram progressive and praise
worthy.
