Cridders Answer Call For Spring Practice Over 40 candidates for the 1941 _ football team answered Coach Bob Higgins’ first call for spring practice yesterday after noon. ' ' The Lion mentor let the squad off easy in the initial turnout, merely getting a lineup on next fall’s prospects. The gridders were given a thorough physical examination and were fitted with uniforms. Weather permitting, outdoor practice will begin next week. '44 Wrestlers, Courlmen End Season With Wins Penn State freshmen wrestling and basketball teams turned in victories Saturday as they brought their seasons to a close. The undefeated wrestlers downed a tough Army team by a score of 26 to 10 as Sam Harry, Jim Foust, Bob Morgan and Paul Schlegel scored falls for the Lions. Bill Poorman and Tom Brenner both won, decisions by wide margins. Chap Peters and Sid Roberts were pinned to turn in the only losses. The cub cagers won their sixth game in seven starts Saturday when they outclassed a Cornell freshman squad by a score of 49 to 20. Glenn Sefs New High Jump Mark Johnny Glenn, sophomore high jumper for the Nittany track men. set a new Penn State record in the event when he cleared the bar at six feet, four and a half inches to tie for second place in the IC4-A track and field cham pionships in Madison Square Garden Saturday night. Barney Ewell was the only other Penn State scorer as he ran second to Harold Stickel of Pitt in the 60-yard sprint and wound up in fifth place in the broad jump after injuring his right ankle. Coach Werner was forced to withdraw Ewell from the broad jump after the sprint star pulled a muscle in his ankle in the sec ond try. Fencers Down Temple For Second Victory The Penn State fencers won their second straight victory by defeating Temple, 13-8, in a bloody meet in Philadelphia Sat urday.
