Lion. Cagers Prepare For Syracuse
After NYU Victory, Loss To Pitt
Fresh from an up and down
weekend in which they upset
NYU, 47-34, arid lost to Pitt,36-27,
the Nittany cagers are priming
for anothei strenuous battle
against Syracuse on the Rec Hall
hardwood tomorrow night.
For proof that the Lions will
haVe a fight on their hands against
the Orangemen, consult the rec
ord book—they've lost only one
out of five this season and that to
NYU by a mere seven points. Last
year the upstate New Yorkers
edged. State twice in a home and
home series.
At Pittsburgh what was adver
tised as a nice, clean basketball
game turned out to be a battle
royal. No less than 32 fouls were
called by the officials and it look
ed as if almost that many went
unmentioned.
The Panthers led 10-8 at the
quarter, 23-15 at the half, and 32-
21 at the three s -quarter mark. The
second half was practically even,
Pitt sinking five goals and three
fouls and State five buckets and
two free tosses.
Scotty Moffatt took top scoring
honors with 11 points. PitCs Ed
die Straloski was second with 10
points. •

Crabtree, Captain Frank Gleason,
Joe Scalzo, garnered easy deci
sions.
Chuck Rohrer scored the other
Lion fall over Fred Weidner and
J6e Valla suffered the only set
back at the hands of Terrapin's
Captain Paul McNeil, who was
extended in winning his 38th
straight mat victory.
Varsity positions for Saturday's
tilt against Syracuse will be wide
open for competition this week,
Coach Charlie Speidel intimated,
although he was satisfied with the
squad's showing against the Ter
rapins.
