A dispatch from one of the hot
spots on the European front? No,
merely part of a story about the
opening day of Pennsylvania's
deer season. That kind of "sport"
should be splendid training for
"green" conscripts.
Like wolves, Nazi undersea craft
are apparently traveling and mak
ing attacks in packs now. If 'such
mass torpedoings aS sunk several
merchant ships out of an eight-ship
convoy 'continue, it would seem
that British' shipping is "in for it."
-The amazing thing about such
a 'method of sub-surface warfare
is not its newness, but the fact
that it has not been used 'before.
Imagine the consternation of the
commander of a convoy-guarding
destroyer who, upon seeing one
of his charges torpedoed, drops a
load of depth-charges and breathes
a sigh of relief upon seeing
bubbles break the ocean surface—
then suddenly hears again the dull
thild of a torpedo exploding on the
side of another helpless merchant
ship. -
We hate to admit it, but Hitler's
war-lords have something there.
Munitions factories in Britain—
are Axis bombings against them
meeting with success? British cen
sorship jealously guards, the ans
wer to this question, but a write
up of the recent Southampton
bombing would appear to let the
proverbial cat out of the bag.

Hitler vs. Italy
Hitler's forces may invade Italy
in the near future. -
A fantastic idea,. you say? Sure,
that's what we thought when we
heard a prediction to that effect
come over our radio from two
well-known news commentators
on Sunday. night. Then we heard
the why and Wherefore, after
which the thought of a Nazi move
in the direction of Italy seemed
not only reasonable, but possible.
Of course a lot depends on what
happens in Greece and, especially,
in northern Africa during coming
months, but here's the way it
could happen:
First, let us suppose that Italy
suffers a few more setbacks of the
kind which seem to be particularly
the rage with her troops lately. As
a result, the dissatisfaction with
Mussolini, , already increasing in
Italy if reports are true, might well
increase by leaps and bounds.
History records that when a
people become restless and dis
"gusted with their ruler, they in
variably do something about it—
something which may range from
honest-to-goodness revolution to
mild lack of cooperation. If this
restlessness and its results come
to Italy, along with it will come
the Nazi legions of the man Hitler.
Already large forces of German
troops, well supported by aircraft,
are reported concentrated near
Brenner Pass, the gateway. to Italy.
It is these which, according to the
above mentioned commentators,
Hitler will use to keep Italy in the
A)ds if the slightest sign of unrest
appears. This invasion, if it ever
occurs, should be quite successful,
for Der Fuehrer is no novice at
'` l protectiver attacks. For refer
erence, see Czechosldvakia, Yugo
slavia, Rumania, etc.

made possible a certain -amount of progress
and prosperity for our organization. These
friendships have been an enjoyable experi

enthusiasm to the future.
