Gone, But Rot—
. .
A nice - gesture—that of Bob
Higgins in - Saturday's game in see
ing that every senior on the Lyon
squad got into the Violet-plucking.
Nitfany fans saw for the last time
on New Beaver Field the big
numbers 26, 27, 40, 12, 28, 43, 8,5,
6, 10, 47, 9, 37, 38. Only once more
will these same men bear the
silver' 'figures for State—and that
will be at Pittsburgh.
One nice thing was the way the
Nittany gridders started things off
against the New Yorkers. Chuck
Peters didn't even give Dr. Stevens
enough time to sit down and cross
his legs before he had scored on
the dazzling 101-yard spin down
the field.
The NYU fracas evidenced more
than any other fray this year that
the liotis of 1942 are not going to
be the push-over most people be
lieve. :Fans are already crying the
blOs because the local will lose
So any men via the sheepskin
route. They query, "Where will
we :be without Gajecki, Vargo,
Platt and Co.?" The ' answer is
found in Mike Kerns, Ken Schoon

Lenten, all sophomores who did
creditably well against the city
folk. •

Cornell Concedes Game
To Indians After Dispute
In an unprecendented move in
recent • football annals, the unde
feated Cornell eleven voluntarily
relinquished its 18-game victory
streak last night by conceding a
3-0 victory to Dartmouth.
When Referee W. H. (Red)
Friesen viewed the motion pic
tures of the game yesterday, 'he
admitted he had been in error and
that Cornell bad been granted a
fifth down illegally. Following
this announcement, Dr. Edmund
E. Day, president of Cornell, and
James Lynah, director of athletics,
decided to abide by the official de
cision.
, This automatically nullified the
Big Red touchdown and removed
Coach Carl Snavelys eleven from
the ranks of the unbeaten and un
tied teams in the nation.

State Primes For Final
Tilt After NYU-Rout
The unpredictable Pitt Panther,
surprise eleven of the East, re
mains as the last and toughest ob
stacle to an undefeated Lion season
as the victorious State team, fresh
from its easy 25-0 romp over New
York University, began priming
yesterday for its annual battle
with the traditional rival.
From reports by scout Earle
Edwards, the Panthers fought Ne
braska to a standstill and, though
beaten by the meagre margin of
9-7, displayed the best all-around
power of any State opponent this
year. Coach Bob Higgins and his
staff have dispelled any rumors
about Pitt's weakness among the
squad and are preparing the grid
ders for a hard climax to a great
campaign.
While the fast-stepping Lion at
tack reeled off four touchdowns
against the hapless Violets, the
score was no indication of Blue and
White superiority. No less than
three six-pointers were nullified
and several marches down the
field bogged down within feet of
pay-off territory. In addition,
Coach Higgins used regulars very
sparingly, no doubt looking for
ward to Saturday's game. As a
result of this sagacious maneuver,
the Lions will be at full strength
for the finale.
The highlight of the NYU fracas
was undoubtedly the spectacular
101-yard runback oh the opening
kickoff 'by Chuck Peters. Grabbing
Armand Prusmack's kickoff behind
his own goal-line, the veteran tail-,
back momentarily fumbled, re
covered and was off on his century
jaunt. Aided by brilliant open field
blocking, Peters raced down the
center of the field to his 30, cut
toward the right sidelines, evaded.
three Violet tacklers at midfield
and jogged the last 30 yards un
molested.
The second State touchdown was
scored midway in the second per
iod on a long pass from Sparky
Brown to Len Xrbuse who pulled
one of his copyright catches on
the NYU 22 and carried the leath
er for the remaining distance.
