Pipe-Dreaming
Before beginning on the con
tents herein, let it be known that
this writer is not a marihuana ad
dict, neither is he a slave to opium,
morphine, or cocaine. What follows
is a product of only an uncontrol
able imagination which gets loose
like Pepper Petrella at times.
Anyway, with all the talk float
ing around about Penn State going
through undefeated in football this
year, and whether or not the Lions
would go to some "bowl" game,
if they did come through unbeaten,
I sat down, just for fun and doped
it out •this way:
In the East there remain, besides
the Nittany aggregation in the
clean-slate class, Cornell, Navy,
Boston College, -Georgetown, and
Lafayette. 'Should the Lions
trounce their four remaining foes,
how would 'they rate in bowl bids
with the above mentioned Eastern
leaders?
Cornell, in this guy's book, is the
best in the land, and won't have
much difficulty easing through
from here undefeated. But, it isn't
the Big Red's policy to accept post
season games.
Navy, even though they should
turn back Penn and Notre Dame
in their next two games, which is
near impossible, wouldn't play in
a New Year's battle.
Boston College and GeorgetovCrn
do battle with each other next
month, which should eliminate one
of them, that is, if one of the teams
wins the game. (A startling deduc
tion, that last one.)
Conceding Lafayette a good
chance to finish up their slate in
the black, Penn State would be
favored for a "bid" over the Leop
ards because the Lions play a
tougher schedule.
Thus, the process of reduction
leaves only State and the victor of
the Boston College - Georgetown
game in the East as possible con
tenders for an "after-dinner" af
fair, all of which makes things
look kind of rosy.
Heck, with a little encourage
ment from someone, I'd stick my
toothbrush in my pocket, grab a
sandwich, and head for Miami,
New Orleans, or Pasadena any
time now.
Gamecocks Considered
Tough By Scout Michaels
Still one of the six remaining un
defeated and untied football teams
in the East, the Nittany Lions put
in their second session of practice
yesterday as they prepared for the
season':s only intersectional game
with South Carolina this Saturday.
Backfield coach Al Michaels has
brought back glowing reports
about the Gamecocks despite their
losses to Georgia, Duquesne, and
Clemson. In their last tilt, the
Southerners held the vaunted
Clemson team to a 20 to 13 score.
Jordan And Irvin Halls
IM Football Victors
Jordan Hall, last year's inde
pendent intramural football cham
pfons, 'paved the way for an
other undefeated season by down
ing Frazier A.C. by a 6-0 score
Monday night.
the second football match
held on Monday night, Irvin Hall
won from a stubborn 8.8.8. ag
gregation by a technical decision
of 1 down. S.R.B. led in the num
ber of 'first downs up until the lat
ter part of the second half when a
series of long passes put Irvin Hall
in the lead with 5 first downs to
8.R.8.'s 4.
