A Typical Penn State -
Man Defined In Fun
THE LOATHSOME S YLL A -
BLES, a typical Penn State coed,
have long irked campus women to
the foot-stamping degree. We have
felt for some time that the persons
referred to by the men as “typical”
are not representative of the ma
jority of coeds. This, of course, has
two distinct, disputable sides.
The time has come for us to
categorize the men. Those not fitt
ing into ,thb “typical” division au
tomatically take their places in the
"nbn-typical” class and hereafter
we shall ignore them. For it is on
•the “typical” men that we wish
to digress.
, First, the typical Penn State man
has. forgotten the simple manners
which most high school boys use
nonchalantly. He stumbles through
doors held open for women, dresses
for a baseball game, he'eds a shave
and a clean shirt, could stand some
polish on his shoes, and doesn’t
mind sitting down in classrooms
while the women hold up the
walls.
Second, he never knows what
to do with his feet and his vernacu
lar consists of terms better left
Unwritten.
Third, there hire many “typical
Penn State men” sUch as we have
attempted to describe.
Last, if 'Penh State , men don’t
stop saying “typical Penn State
coed” we shall conduct a drive to
exterminate them—and the slogan
will be, “Penh State Men -Need
Smoothing Up.”

Be Hostesses In Mac Hall
To help freshman women with
correct dining room etiquette, the
11 members of Junior Service
Board will serve as hostesses in
Mac Hall tonight, 'Roberta J. Kelly
’42, chairman, has announced.
At a meeting with the board,
Tuesday, Miss Matilda A. Bentley,
and Miss Ruth H. Zang, assistants
to the dean of women, and Mrs.
Elizabeth W. Dye, associate pro
fessor of home economics, ex
plained some points that should be
passed along to the freshmen.
The hostess is responsible for
beginning and ending the meal.
She should be observant; she
should direct the conversation; and
she should continue eating until
everyone is finished.
On Thursday, October 3, the
upperclass women will be guests
at freshman tables in Mac Hall.
