PAGE TWO Fraternity Rushing Code Calls For Pledging To Start Next Thursday Summer Rushing Ends At 7:00 On Tuesday IFC SELECTIVE RUSHING CODE Article I—Purpose This code is designed to facilitate the selection of prospective mem bers by the chapters of fraternities at The Pennsylvania State College. Article ll—Definitions Section 1. Rushing shall mean any contact or communication be tween fraternity man and rushee. Section 2. Fraternity man shall mean any active, pledge, or alum nus member of any fraternity. Section 3. Rushee shall mean any new undergraduate student entering the campus at-The Penn sylvania State College. The records of the College Registrar shall be used to verify this standing. New two-year agricultural stud en t s shall be included within this defin ition. Section 4. Summer rushing shall mean any rushing prior to 7:09 p.m., Tuesday, September 10. Section 5. Rushee house guests shall be those rushees who are in vited by the fraternity to be guests in chapter houses fbr a period overnight or longer. Section 6. Rushee house guest cards shall be the official-cards pro vided by IFC for notification to IFC of the presence of all rushee house guests. Section 7. With a continuation of the trend expected this year finder the radically revised rushing code, fraternity leaders predict the- num ber of freshman pledges will pass 400 for tha first time since 1936 and include approximately 40 per cent of the freshman men. Rushee house, guests may live in fraternity houses it any time upon- invitation by dhe fraternity and upon any conditions .which the fraternity may establish.- Section 3. Other fraternities shall have free access to rushee house guests in accordance with the de sires of the rushee. . , Section 4. Fraternities having rushee house guests shall send the : names. of all such guests immedi ately upon their arrival to IFC- at Student Union, upon the official house-guest cards. - Section 5. Rushing shall not in terfere with regularly-scheduled Freshman Week activities. Fra ternities entertaining rushees at' any time shall be responsible for seeing that the rushees leave the house in time to' attend such events. The rushees shall consid er it a serious breach of fraternity ethics.if any fraternity man shall attempt to persuade him not to at tend any official Freshman Week activity. Section 6. All rushing after the arrival of the rushee upon the campus and during’ the official rushing period shall be confined to the borough limits. Section 7. Rushing shall not be conducted in any beer-distributing establishment (a) No intoxicating beverages shall be used in any manner in rushing. Section 8. No-wdmen shall be* used in rushing. - (a) Women shall .not be present in fraternity houses at any time at which rushees are present. (This statement shall not apply. to mothers or v casual out-of-town wo men guests). Section'9. A Judiciary Commit tee shall investigate and rule upon all infractions of this code. (a) The Judiciary Committee shall be composed of five fraternity .alumni'members. The fifth- member shall -be selected, by vote of the' other four members. - (b) The Judiciary Committee shall serve without compensation. (c) When a case is being.consid ered by the Committee in which one of its members is vitally in - teres ted the Committee shall re quest that member temporarily to withdraw. Section' 10. The Judiciary Com~ mittee shall have the sole power officially to interpret this code. Section 12. It shall be within the ■duty , of "the Judiciary Committee to censure or to fine any fraternity for a violation, of the spirit as well as the* letter of this code. ; Article V—Pledging - Section 1. Bids to membership may be extended to rushees dn any manner desired by the fraternity, within the limits of this code. - Section 2. .When a rushee ac cepts a bid this fact must immedi ately be transmitted to the IFC at Student Union by means of the official acceptance cards provided for that purpose. Theseoards must be signed both by the rushee and by a representative of the fratern ity. The rushee shall not be con sidered as pledged until after'the -delivery of-this card to-the IFC.; Section s. If a rushee breaks his pledge he may not be pledged by any other fraternity for 'a* period of 30 days-thereafter. During this •period he shall not live - (remain overnight or longer) in any fratern ity, house. - Artie 1* Vl—Rushing Deposit Fee Section 1. Each fraternity shall deposit with IFC a rushing deposit fee of $5O before it shall be en titled-to receive its official rushing cards and data. Section 2. The acceptance cards shqll be serially numbered and a record kept of the serial numbers given to each fraternity. All cards must be returned to IFC. Section 3~. All IFC dues shall be taken from the rushing-deposit fee 'before the balance is returned to the fraternity.
