Survey Shows College Placement
Of Graduating Seniors R i nks High
About 30 Per , Cent 'Of Contacted Graduates
Obtained Jobs; Application Blanks NecesSany
Although Penn State doesn't have a placement bureau, ft . still
ranks high in graduate placement according to a ecent survey con
ducted by Pi of John S Bowman in his English composition•l6 class
With 104 pet cent of 9075 students graduating in June contacted
m the cut vey, 50 pet cent had obtained jobs eithet by depattmental
aid of personal initiative
The old question asked by grad
, uates concerning the effect of
grades upon job-getting was an
swered when the report showed
that the maim ity of job-holders
were in the first half of their class,
while the ones in the second half
usually teemed positions by per
sonal contact with employers
A letter of application is neces
sary for obtaining a job, the sm.,
vey revealed, regal dless of methods
used at whether application blanks
had been tilled or prospective
employers seen pet sonally
The technical schools, especially
the Mineral Industries and Engin
eel ing Schools, were able to place
over 60 per cent of their graduates
contacted This may be explained
by their excellent placement serv
ice which sends out pamphlets
containing pictut e, es.perience, age,
cob a curl mule' activities, hobbies,
and other details
Ovei 40 per cent of the total
job-holders received their posi
tions by departmental of adminis
tration placement, and 30 pm cent
contacted employers personally
Faculty and other means of con
tact were responsible for the re
maining 30 per cent
Piovmg that students should
concenti ate on a pai ticular field of
work, approximately 85 per cent
obtained jobs in the blanch for
which they prepared
