Pate Four Sixth All-College Hike Features Ice-Skating This Sunday Penn State hikers are invited to go to Whipple Dam, Dick .lames '39, chairman of student hikes, announced yesterday. ' . This is the sixth all-College hike of the year and every student .and facility member who is interested in hiking is, invited. Transportation will be provided from Dec hall at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Everybody is urged to bring ice skates for, if the weather permits, the afternoon can'be spent in skat ing. For those who do' not wish to skate,: hikes into the surrounding mountains are being planned. A fee of 15 cents will be charged to cover the cost of refreshments and trans portation. "Dress warmly," said James. "Bring blankets if you wish; and the bike will be enjoyed by all." The tenderest, toughest love story 50 Skiers Ready To Open Season The Penn State Ski Club'held its first meeting of the season last Tues day in Room 410, Old Main, and over 50 enthUsiastic skiers and! potential skiers were present. • This year, skiing will be coached by Ben Harriman, a Dartmouth alum nus'and a graduate student of chem istry here. Paul Massey '3B is the captain of the" ski team which will represent Penn State in several meets this winter. All club members turned out for the meeting in their ski clothes and brought their skiing equipment with them. Couch Harriman gave a talk on the proper care of equipment, em phasizing the applying of wax to skis. The weather so far this year prom ises plenty of snow, and ehe skiers are hoping for the best. Several of the club members were practicing on the Centre,Hills golf course early this week. About 17 of them were skiing on the base,of the ski trail Monday afternoon. There has not been suffi cient snow, as yet, to permit the full use of the trail. The Ski Club is open to all stu dents interested in the sport. Women are invited, for skiing is being taken ,up more and more by women, and al most every big meet permits their en tering. A. Peel, Junior Class President, do here by petition for space on the college campus in which to operate a second hand book exchange. This exchange will operate on a non-profit basis and for the sole purpose of enabling stu dents to, get second-hand books at a reduced price. It is our plan to have the student set his own price on the book he wish es to sell, said price not to exceed two-thirds the original value of the book, and leaVe it at the exchange which-will make every effort to find a buyer. If the book is sold, the seller and the buyer each will pay a five cent service charge. This five-cent ser vice charge Will go to cover the op erating expenses of the exchange. If the book •is not sold, there will be no charge made.. The exchange Will operate for ap proximately two - weeks, one week at the close of the first semester and one week at the beginning of the sec ond semester. This venture is being sponsored by the Independent party in fulfillment of one of its platform promises to the student body and 'because the student body in general feels that a means of savings on student text books should be provided. As a possible location for this ex change we suggest one of 'the cloak rooms' at the front entrance of the Old Main Sandwich Shop.
