BUILDING WITH '4l
EVERYONE, freshmen and upperclassmen alike,
should turn out to, see a promising freshman foot
ball leant tackle Pitt on •Neu 'Beaver" Field tomorrow
lEEE=
From what we have seen and heard, this year's fresh
man football team is the best and most.promi;ing hunch
of boys that have hit State since her hey-day of' nth-,
letics back in the teens. seems that we really have
something -there—soniething that should be built and
molded into an organization that will satisfy students,
faculty, and alumni.
The way to preserve the - fine start that the yearlings
have made is to turn out tomorrow for the game with a
spirit and support that will encourage the class of '4l
to continue •ite pa work
For not only the freshman team has been something
to be proud of, but the class as a whole. Better Penn
State spirit has been exhibited by : the incoming class
than has been evident for a long time.
This year's newcomers hti've a fine scholastic entrance
rating, the, best yet. They are well-rounded, capable in
all fields.
They have clone things ?..a far, and support tomorrow
will be one tay -to insure their continued spirit and
SENATE DINES OUT
ENATE representatives will }mire dinner with
women in the downtown dorms during the next
few weeks to promote a better understanding of W. S.
G. A. and to explain some of the house regulations. This
is a splendid opportunity for the women to become ac
quainted with Senate members so that they'can discuss
their problems freely
They need not limit their questions to the duties of the
house president, but_ean ask anything that is puzzling
them about studen gtovernment, e. g., "How does the
dicial Committee operate?", if they have been fortunate
enough to have avoided close contact with it. ,
They should feel at liberty to ask why 'wehave cer
tain regulations to clear up any misunderstanding. , If
they make intelligent queries they will '.probably dis
cover some new angles that have'governed Senate's de-
"We hope that this, won't be a 'one-sided affair, and
that the downtown women will offer some suggestions
that will benefit Senate. This co-operation should give
the women a feeling of unity with N. S. G. A. that will
make it a progressive organization.
A GREAT LECTURER
IN 11. A. Overstreet, the Forensic Council has brought
to the eaMpus again this year another great lec
turer and student. They have procured for student bene
fit a man who will produce a lecture on a par with the
one Will Durant offered last year. •
Mr. Overstreet has a broad experience and a wide
reputation. His subject, "Human Behavior Under a
Dictatorship," is one that is timely and of interest to
all those concerned with current world problems.
Students and faculty shouid take advantage of his
presence by attending and listening to:the interesting
things he will have to say. 'Forensic Council is to be
congratulated for procuring again this year an excellent
speaker with a pertinent subject.
UNDECLARED WAR IN CHINA
/P THIS SUBJECT that Dr. Koo will speak of both in
chapel and at the Pledge Dinner Sunday is as
promising as it Sounds,•sutdents here, this weekend
will have the opportunity of educating themselves in the
realm of international events. • •
Certainly a man as Roo should 'ktiote . something of
the.situation that has not been banted about as.'.yet.
Each fraternity should make sure-that Its pledges at
tend 100 per cent. Intrafraternity pledge.altMets are
better when speakers as Er. KOO ' ; ilre Irttrittioll.

It Must Be An .Honor:
Tt really must be an honor to become a menthe). of
Pershing Mlles, we have discovered. We probably

When hopeful younefrosh petition to become mem

the Sea, (pardon, we mean yershing 'Rifles) they list
their previous military and drill experience as qualifi
cations.; This is to .make sure that men of proper
calibre and experience make the grade. :
New take the case of Julian Cold, Sigma Tan Phi.
There's really a man•with a-past! • Tic made the orga

Academy (or some such fantastic place). -And guess
when he - went? When he was seven years old.
And Speaking of Honor:

fruit farmers:to find out what they did -with their es.

wanted to find out whht - they did - with apples.

Not-to bedutdone, Jack'Kulp, theta xi, and no mean
apple' polisher himself (as our tale will prove) wrote
- every state' in the union to find out. The letters be.
zan . coming in at the rate of seven or eight a day.
Finally one day came a letter from Arkansas. It
seems 'they didn't know what to do with their extra
apples - down there either, but right in the middle:of
theietter written by someone's secretary was a COM

a hobby of colleCting address cf people that are far ,

Or wordslo that effect.
If you .think Jaek was amazed, you 'should have
seen Sam,when he saw it. For Sack showed him the
letter as proof of his having written about apples, al
though he: seemed to have *collected little about turn
ing under 'apple trees.
Said Sam: "'This is astounding'. rye never seen

We're wondering, too.
Ain't Science Wonderful?:

Abet-Nature Wonderful?:
We learn that' Franklin. Banner, of journalism,. is
nature's trioSt devoted follower by a remark that he
passed in class the other day. It seems that'he was
imalyeing a freshman co-ed .for a feature story, or
something of the kind.
