Nittany Lion Cubs Face Stiff
Assignment Against Panthers

The Lion yearling football squad
leaves the Corner this morning to
invade the stronghold of the Pitt
Panther frosh. The game will be
played tomorrow on the Shadyside
Academy Field at 2 o’clock.
The traveling squad is composed ,o£'
ends, Mc'Clintoch, Washabaugh, Rad-j
cliff, Alter and Baxter; tackles,
Stvaviniski, Ted Nemeth, McCullough, j
Carter, Handler or Leslie; guards,]
Pollock, Schwartz, Thompson, Dave

During practice this week, Coach
McAndrews stressed a passing at

pleted not a single one. Running back
punts was also stressed.
In facing Pitt the frosh will be up
against one of their strongest oppon
ents. Last week the Panthers drop
j ped a close one to Carnegie Tech’s
I plebes, 7-to-0. Cassiano, left halfback
!of Pitt, was their outstanding per
former.
Grover Wnshabaugh and Dick
Ewalt, whose sport careers have al
most been paralleled, will act as co
captains for the Lions. Both boys
played football at Mt. Lebanon and
Kiski and are well-known in Pitts
burgh. Grover’s father, W. C. Wash
bough. is coach at South High, Pitts
burgh.

A team that seems to Have all the
requisites of a good eleven but has
not been able to get. anywhere ‘ this
season will meet another team that
has been in much the same boat all
season, on New Beaver field tomor
row. lam referring to that Orange
powerhouse known as Syracuse in the
I first instance;-to those mystery men
(known as the Nittany Lions in the
second.
It is a good prognosticator, indeed,
who will successfully call his shots
on the outcome of this game, for
when the two mystery teams of the
East come together anything is like
ly to happen—and probably will.'
That Syracuse has the stuff is the
firm conviction of Joe Bedenk after
returning from a scouting trip last
Saturday.
Playing on familiar terrain for the
first time in two weeks and bolstered
by a renewed.spirit that was shown
for the first time in the Cornell game,
the Lions have a slight psychological
advantage. But then, the Orange
gridders. have been the underdogs
long enough this season and a come
back for them will not be out of place
at this time.

Miller, captain of last season's Lion
nine, will get a trial with the Red
Sox . . . The excellent treatment that
the varsity. team re
ceived during their stay in New York
for the Manhattan meet last Satur
day suggests scheduling more events
with that- school. It was the first
lime the two schools had ever met in
any kind of varsity competition.

ing waged for positions on the gym
team among the thirty candidate
who have been working out in Rec
hall for the past few weeks. Runkle
and Captain Mattorn look especially
promising.
The schedule for the coming sea
son ■ is not yet complete, but a meet
with Temple, last year’s national
champions, has already been arrang
ed. Haig and Tenvilliger, outstand
ing performers on last year’s.steam,
did not return to school.
