Downey Has Record
For a time Downey occupied the
unique position of being co-captain of
two sports, cross-country and track,
at the same. He held the first in
partnership with Bill Trimble, and
the second with Mike Brown. How
ever, Trimble failed to return to
school this fall and so Downey now
holds the honor outright.
Downey has had a brilliant career
as an athlete, both in high school and
college. He attended Bellevue high
school where, during his senior year,
he was captain of both the basketball
and track teams. He also played on
the football team. His outstanding
high school race was his winning of
the Western Pennsylvania Interscho
lastic Athletic League 880-yard run.
