THE PENN ;STATE COLLEGIAN
Experience Held Keynote 16'36
Football Season by Bob Higgins
By JERRY IVEINSTEIN
Experience will be the determining
factor in the succcss•of Penn State's
1936 football team.
"Experience is the greatest asset
that a football, player can have," said
Bob Higgins in, discussing next sea
son's prospecti. "Once a fellow ac
quires all the necessary equipment
that makes a player good, he must get
enough experience to'prepare himself
for all kinds of football."
Coach Higgins stated, that he ex
pected to have an improved team next
year, mainly because of the unusually
goed.crop of freshman players coming
up. But • these men have had only
one year of college football, and their
inexperience may shbw. Many mis
takes are made in games due to this
inexperience. .
. "It is all right," Higgins . "to
have two-or three freshmen, on a var
sity first team. ;However, to have five
or six yearlingg in there every game
is putting too-much of a 'strain upon
the veterans.: Although our team is
going to be a better outfit next year,
the inexperience of our .new player's:
may cost us a few games."
• Perhaps' the biggest asset of the
1936 squad over that of 1935 will be'
in the strength - of the ends. Gradua
tion will take Art Fry and Bill Miller,
'1935 stars. • But with such wingmen
as -Alex Barantovick Frank Smith,
Carl Waugamen,George Palmer, and
.I . oe Krupa, coming up, Higgins feels
that this position will be the-least of,
his worries.. .
The weakest spat on the new eleven
will be -at - tackle.. Captain Bob Web
'er's graduaton'will leave , a hole that
will be hard to'- fill. Roy Schuyler,
regular tackle,- will be on hand, as,
will Dan - DeMarino; . a. substitute.
Newcomers to:battle Tor the' pc.sition '
are Dean Hanley and Joe Peel.
•- At guard, ,Higgins will haiie a

he can call ogloretti, who was fresh

last: season, will be shifted to the
blocking spot. Enders has perform
ed well there in spring- workouts.
Sammy Donato will' return; with a
freshman, Tony Gianantoiiio, also
well in the pinning. There arc many
hall-carrying backfield men to choose
from. Fullback contenders will .be
Bud Kyle and 'Joe Metro, -freshmen;
and Tommy- Silvan() ; varsity veteran
of two seasons.
Climaxing an extensive spring cam
paign with a practice scrimmage with
Lock Haven, Coach Higgins called off
the remaining ten days ;of .practice.
He felt that it would benefit the.melf
more if they went out for the various
spring sports. " .•
