Sopliumore candidates for cheer
leader are asked to report to Room
321, Old Main, tonight •at 7:30.
Candidates need have no previous
experience. The present junior
and senior cheerleaders will begin
instruction in yell and song routine
immediately.
By means of an election method
the junior cheerleaders will be
elected after a period of training.
The method of selection will be ex
plained in detail at the meeting.

theii play, the varsity lacrosse team
is preparing for the season's opener
against Fermin Philadelphia on Sat
urday: This will be the second sea
son for the sport under Glenn "Nick"
Thiel, fernier all-American at Syra
cuse.
Last sense; the team scored' victo
ries over Lehigh, 14-0, Pennsylvania,
11-3, Cornell; 10-6, and Lafayette,
19-4; but suffered defeat at the hands
of Western Maryland, 19-3, and
Army, 12-9. There remained from

freshman outfit are promising varsity

varsity basketball letterman, reported
for lacrosse' at the beginning of the
season and has picked,up enough of
the game to earn a starting position

The other individual contestant is
Pete Olexy. fie Will compete in a
new event for him, the 3,000 meters
steeplechase. Although he is used to
the distance, Pete has never run a
steeplechase and can hardly be ex-
crosse before, but because of his
speed, aggressiveness, and stickwork
has beaten out several experienced
men to earn a varsity post.
Fred Maley, varsity home of last
season, will be lost to the team this
year because of an injured knee he
received while teboganning during
the past winter. Ile will assist Thiel
in coaching the freshmen. Port);
first-year men reported for practice
in response to the first call.

the season, were. quite encouraging.
ilcßillips took the 940 in 55 seconds,
better than varsity time, and alio won
the 100 in• 10.1 Four cross-country
men won the 'mile and half-mile. Herb
Hazard took the former in good time,
4:37.1, followed •by Len Henderson.
Burt Aikman won the half in 2:09.
Griest was second.,
