completely cut off because of the de
struction by flood of its warehouse at
Lock Haven.
Phone Service Limited
With several hundred calls from
yesterday still waiting to get through,
telephone officials at Bellefonte
is
sued a request that studelits refrain
from making calls to the various'.
flood areas unless they were of an
I emergency nature. Extra operators
'are now filling every switchboard po
sition in an effort to take care of the
Iheaviest traffic ever carried over the
central Pennsylvania lines.
"It is impossible to say in advance
whether calls can get through," an
official at Bellefonte said, "because
we cannot know how long certain
lines will hold out or whether it will
be possible to make a connection witn
the number being called."
At press time yesterday it was
practically impossible to put calls
through to Johnstown, Williamsport,
Jersey Shore, Wilkes-Barre, Hazle
ton, and ,the smaller towns in those
districts. Only a very limited service
was possible withlcek Haven, Lewis
town, Pittsburgh, and Huntingdon.
Service to the. Harrisburg area was
still in good condition, but many local
telephones there were out of service.
"The best' thing for students to' do
who wish to make calls anywhere in
the state is to place them and wait
until it is possible for them to get
thrOugh," the Bellefonte office said.
Mail. Service Halted
No mail is coming in or going out
of Slate College at present, Mr. Rob
ert Miller, local. postmaster, stated,
and until the plesent storm stops it•
will be impossible even to estimate
when postal service will be able to
operate. While it is possible to take
mail to Tyrone and certain other
points by truck, none. of the railroad
lines are in operation and it is un
able to leave these points. The only
advantage in students mailing let
ters at present, Mr. Miller said, is
if they wish to have a particular post
Mark on them.
Although radio reports have said
that the air mail was still in opera
tion 'Mr.• Miller pointed out that ;t
was again impossible for any air mail
nested here to reach any point of de.;.

•
Because of the breakdown of tele
graph lines leading out of Bellefonte;
Lock Haven, 'Tyrone, and other near
by towns, practically all telegraph
service 'out - of State College came to
a halt yesterday. Officials tvere un
able to state when' service would be
resumed, but said that any messages
which were filed would be scnt.out as
Carly as possible.
