Page Four Today’s Election Will Not Determine Economic Recovery, Hasek Declares The election of cither Hoover or Roosevelt will make little difference as far as the economic recovery of the country is concerned, according to Dr. Carl W. Hasek, head of the de partment of economics and sociology. “There is nothing to ,the political propaganda being spread by the Re publicans that Hoover must be re elected to insure the continued up ward trend,” he added. “Slumps and recoveries come in spite of politics.” 'Showing that there is a distinct up ward movement in industry and pros perity in the country, Dr. Hasek said that the inventories of almost every business show' a great depletion. In dustry must be put to work to fill them again, ho added. “The steeh industry has increased its production from twelve to nineteen How Others Voted College Hoover Yale 1,415 Wesleyan 372 Main Unlv, 65G Harvard 1,211 Wellesley 37G Amherst " 35S Smith 813 Williams , 411 M. Stocks have risen ono hundred per cent and bonds thirty per cent since last July.” In Dr. Hasek's opinion, as soon as the election is over* and off the pub lic's mind, the country will have two months of distinct improvement due to the customary Christmas business. The bottom of the depression has been passed and we are now on our way up, he believes. • The returning public confidence is shown by the fact that the cash out of circulation has decreased about. 250 million dollars, Dr. Hasek said. “The coming election will have little if any thing to do with the business upturn.” ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ Again Chosen as Musical Favorite “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin is still the favorite musical composition of students enrolled in the music appreciation course, a sur vey conducted last week revealed. Fifteen of the fifty students in the class .chose Gershwin’s song as their favorite, while “The Rosary” by Ethelburt Nevin was second with ten votes. “Rhapsody in Blue” was the choice of the largest number of the students in the class last spring. Rosbdch’s “Trees” secured seven votes to come third in popularity, fol lowed by Rachmaninoff's “Prelude in C Sharp Miner” with six.’ Other* fav orites were “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life,” “The Indian Love Call,” and “Humoresque.” Choices varied from wholly clas sical compositions to modern jazz se lections. However, the most popular musical compositions were of the semi-classical type. • ‘ Walter; Walus ’33, varsity basket ball player, selected as his favorite “When the Shepherd Leads',, the Sheep Back Home,” while" Regis’E.
