JOURNALISM-A MAJOR SUBJECT
Because 01 the interest that has been shown b‘ students taking
courses in journalism, the department of English has enlarged this
subject and now offers it as a mayor course in that department Pre
vious to thus semester two courses were offered in news writing, but
the increased enrollment in Journalism courses has led the department
of English to widen the field and nov sis courses arc enumerated in
the catalogue
The introduction of the additional tour courses marks the begin
ning of a new major field in English cc Penn State for it will elbow a
student to denote his time to extensive study along journalistic lines.
For the most part those isho we taking these courses at pi csent in
tend to follow the newspaper game after graduation But the courses.
practical and instructi%e as they are to those who arc taking them With
thus intention, arc so designed and taught as to be valuable to the
undcrpiaduate who merely elects them as any other English subjects
W F Gibbons, assistant protessor of English and H G. Baker,
an instructor in that department, arc in charge of the courses in journ
alism Both arc men with years of practical newspaper experience
behind them and they ate well qualified to teach the subject
Detailed information regarding this field will gladly be given any
students who arc interested in electing journalism as t major subject
