With the intention of suppl)ing this need, the COLLEGIAN introduces its new column entitled, IHE LIONS DEN, by Daniel Under this head still be found articles written in a light vein and intended primarih for entertainment At some time or other, gentle reader, von might think that "Daniel," in his attempts to be witty, is getting rather personal Old Daniel himself assures the public that nothing of the hind is intended The policy cf inx Ring open discussion on general topics will be confirmed Letters intended for the Letter Box must be signed for the purpose of identification, but the name will be withheld if it is so desired If you see or hear something funny, write it down and send it to Daniel DISCUSSION GROUPS "The place of compulsion in building college traditions," is the first subject that came up for discussion among the student-faculty groups last night The Y M C A has started the ball rolling and already it has of:citified sufficient momentum to bring together fifty group leaders who are now conducting classes on the topics which sere printed in last Tuesday's COLLEGIAN The efforts of the "IY" and those student leaders and members of the faculty, oho are taking a more than passing interest in the solution cf these campus problems, mark the beginning of a rrc , hod bj which many of these questions man be solved In no respects are the meetings confined to any group or class, at every gathering there emsts a democratic spirit which cal's these men together for an informal and thorough round table talk •••hich Lon do no other than prove beneficial to those who participate and to the College in general That there is some interest being shown by the undergraduate body in its attempt to coke these - problems is manifest in the addi tional questions that have been added to the questionnaire At pres ent there is an abundance of subjects for discussion, what is wanted is more students to c\press their views and to hear what others think about the saint subject SELF CENSORSHIP A cermin individual once said, "Let a man or woman in (I com munity go astray and that person is blamed, but should a college or university student commit a wrongdoing, the entire collegiate world is placed at fault" No better proof of this statement is to be bound than the severe criticism hurled at one of the South's leading institutions of higher learning in which the student body as a whole was rigorously censoied because of an obnomous party staged by a certain few There is a decided misapprehension on the part of many narrow minded persons who apparently believe that a college or university is a thing out of toe ordinaiy, that it is something in the nature of "ieform school" 'this class of hypocrites stands ready at a mom ent's notice to assail the college student for anything regarded by the ordinary outsider as a matter-of-fact And it is the above men tioned class that is making the road of the modern institution a hard one to navel These accusations seem discouraging, but after a little consid eration the sky is clear A college or university is a small community in which is to be found the bad as well as the good. And with a trifle more reflection one learns that the average student of today is doing all in his power to correct these wrongdoers who, in any other community, would simply be brought before the law and punished accordingly However, the knowledge seekers of this period attempt to go further In the case mentioned above, the accused students were found guilty by the undergraduate governing body and immediately dis missed from college And in this action lies a wonderful encourage ment It indicates that the young men and women of today are ready to condemn those wayward ones among them. It bears further evidence that there is a strong desire for right and that the modern student is well able to work out the problems of his awn com munity. No calamity overhangs the college or university of today as some are inclined to believe America has nothing to fear from her 1925 Letter Box TO the ' , that'll', Or tent, tte 1 ~I+ll to tit Illt• toll fn the 000111- Linton ultitlt 1011 141,1 nit It t MO lit 3f, Ito fot ttol the ,Itlttlion E=l 1 o.int to th tolt , 11 nett Ind Vi Wit I, Huh 111% it /10 rl,llolollik lil,-. 11 tea then .11 o o of the t omit !loaf on to tot out tho t hashon at,l till l•tto i.glrc tnt Etlltu. In addition to your undergraduate work, which should serve as a solid foundation, it will be well to con sider the advisability of special training which will help to cut off years of apprenticeship in the business world. Babson Institute offers an intensive training course of one or two years —which teaches the fundamental pnnciples of business and how to apply them in the daily conduct of commercial affairs. By laboratory methods the student is shown and taught the principles of Executive Management which have built many of America's leading concerns. Babson Institute is conducted for the purpose of aiding young men, who are to occupy positions of responsibility and trust to fill such positions ably and with credit to themselves.
