FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The organization of every busiresi enterprise is generalli rcoorn
panted by a Financial plan viith l.hlCil the hopes of tie inatituted bed',
may function and perform its sari= It .s noon this phase of the
organization that much depends as to iihoiher the thing is to sun lie
a life of usefulness or fell into obti lop The responsibilities of the
men who contrel the finances are heave, the faith of the investor
is placed in them and feet arc held accoontablc For failure There
arc at Penn Stole Four such district grours each , el M 111C11 has a tune
tion, they are the four classes represcinied in this ColLage
When wen fail in business there is aleays .1 query raised as to
their methcd of financing, persoiwl as well as corrorete interests arc
involved in the "smash" If one of the four classes at Pert State
were to fail in the conduction of its finances there, too, N,oulcl be
raised a question, but it wculd up one of personobties alone Unlike
the polies held by legally organized corporations, the classes at this
institution crn rssess but they cannot e•shoi t pasment It is unfor
tunate. Unless each student takes it upon hons2.lf to pa% his class
dues promptly and in full the i.nancril committees are pw,.er'ccs tc
act in the best wteicsts of the class
Methods of collecting class does base been breached, but the
same system of understcod chngetions still renouns in vogue It has
often been said that a men is hardest hit when it affects his pocket
book, it shoald not he true at Penn State The mcne} which is de
rived from the members of the draws c•.ocndad to adenntage and
for the common good of all Let there be no hanging-back when the
time for paythent is due A forAesure of the old system and the
inauguration of one whereby the stuuent would be assessed at the
time of payment cf the College fees would do much to mold unplea
santness when the delinquent sacs "re apnrooched
3IUSIC WEEK
The deNelopment of the arts in this country has been almost
phenomenal, especially is this tree of mos c From the prim'ctvt
stages man has alwass turned to s:ng, a= a teed urn tarough '.hick he
might express his emotions Llusic is essentially the c pression of
the soul Prim:T.llv it v"s song that grew out of the folk d tacos
which were enacted en the green, musical in,trumcnts were set to be
discolored although the conch shell and of cr,ide unolamen , s were
fashioned to produce music-like tones
The advance of MUSIC in the sense of its p-csent-&ty acccmplish
ments nas somewhat slow ard covered a period of meny •ears Out
of the pure ehpression of the erne:lons to the earl: lelh songs hs>e
grown the great s j mphomcs, the minuet , , and the sonatas It was
then that instrumental music tragon to assert itself as an acLomam
ment of song
Perhaps the lust um \ ersal ibstritment cf music to take a promi
nent place within the n•tnons of the acrid has been the ..tolin From
this the development NV's rapid and todlv v c hate a multitude of in
struments. all of si bich have their part to play in flu. music of the
people No home, V, Ivitever be its class, is entirely without muses,
no nation, either in war or Deacc, is devoid of it •
Today the and of the Indio anyone raw, tern tt o.ill to what
he des rcs in the music ovroid and with his riii;x_r tips may summcn
opera, mixed concert or int vs suits his mood Music bids its ovay
into the daily hoes of the peopla almost witlicet their bong mare of
its existence, so common has it become With this universal adapt
ncss toward tne art, the schocis and colleges of the country haoc in
troduced music int p their curricul as an essentill part of a well-bal
anced education More and more students flock to the musical
schcols with the desire to learn to pit, or sing
As a recognition of the ado ancement made in the art, and to fur
ther its progress, time has been set aside a tune known as National
Music Week The entire nation will acicnowledge the position of
music Penn State will honoi the occasion b; presenting some of
the more famous musical compositions which boo e bound decided fro or
with the present genciation The churches in this, rs well as in oilier
communities, will hold special musical serotecs curing the neck
It all bids fair to establish another era of advancement for the
art that will never die
A SUCCESS
Whatever was promised in the way of a successful week-end for
the fathers of Penn State students was more than realized this )ear
It was indeed unfortunate that the inclement weather conditions men
aced the beauty of the affair, but what was most outstanding was the
true spirit that N.as maintained even though the weatherman tiled
hard to put a darner on the lest, vitics. It has been said that a mark
ed decrease in attendance was evident. While that may be true it
is gratifying to note that those who did attend wore that "self-satis
fied" expression which gnes assurance that all was not in vain Per
haps the time was a little inopportune coming us it did directly after
the Easter vacatien In' any event it is certain that Fathers' Day
was a success and has well established the occasion as a permanent
fixture on the undergraduate calendar.

the rapid' growth of the company, the e'. tersue na
