STATE WIDE AFFAIR
Several Loving Cups Are Offered
as Trophies—Entries Are
Coming in Daily,

HIND IN PENNSYLVANIA
With the opening day of tile First
State Standard Production Poultry
Show but two weeks distant, the num
ber of applications is mounting higher
each day From present Indications
the Stock Judging Pavilion will be
thronged when the show 00010 OR Oc
tober eighteenth.
Almost two thousand premium Mtn
have been distributal throughout the
state within the lest two weeks and
commendations on those lists have been
coining into the Poultry Husbandry
department from all parts of the state
Any local fanciers, students or other•
wise, who have not received a copy of
this premium list, can obtain ono at
any time at the Wilms of the Poultry
Husbandry department In the Horticul
tural nading
As prism for the best individual
birds and the best exhibits of birds sev
eral beautiful loving cups and other
handsome trophies have been offered
The largest of the cups is the one Pre
sented by the Penn State Poultry Club
This splendid prise measures sixteen

decoration of the Pavilion and bas de
cided that the main decorations will
consist of blue and white bunting
strung from the beams to the center of
the ,building The windows and door
wayorteill have the Hallowe'en arrange
ment of corn shocks, pumkins and au
tumn foliage around them
This shoe, the second of Its kind In
the United States, and the first in the
.taco of Pennsy hanla, is expected to
be an annual event hereafter Besides
being of inestimable salve to the Poul

exhibits, the show will prove valuable
to the college as It will attract visitors
to Dann State that would not otherwise
come It will also enable the Poultry

TO RETURN FROM ABROAD
President John M Thomas has re
ecntly received a Jotter from Dr R. L
',Sackett, who has been on a trip abroad
Dean Sackett left State College on
August fourteenth for a tour of Eng
land and Prance Ho Is expected to
return to his duties as dean of the on
zineering school within tho next two
weeks
Dr Sackett attended the annual con
vention of the British Association for
the Advancement of Science and as
the only American engineering delegate
spoke on a large number of technical
papers that were presented
While In London ho Clotted ono of
the now additions to the London water
supply syvtem and the great sewage
treatment works at Crossness where im
portant experimental work Is being
carried on
Aside from hLs activities as delegate
to the Association, Doan Sackett Is
much interested In English universities
and technical schools During his stay
In England he outdo an extended tour
of the leading schools of London, Liv
erpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds
and Sheffield.

neering has secured C F Alt as a new
member to Its staff Mr. Alt graduated
as a mechanical engineer from the Uni
versity of Michigan last year and la
taking work for his master's degree
while carrying on his teaching In the
