OPENING GAME IS WON BY NITTANY - GRID TEAM (Continued from first page) team, was one of the sensations of the game. The giant tackle was in every play and broke through the opposing line and spoiled the Annville offense a number of times. His outstanding feats, however, were two drop kicks, both from the fifty yard line. They were remarkably accurate boots and barely missed adding to the Nittany score. His last kick from the fifty yard line struck the cross bar and had It been an Inch higher, it would have counted. Just what that kick would have meant to Onyx can be realized on referring to the records which show that last year only one drop kick was successful over a longer distance. That one was made by Charles 01learn, playing on the Yale team against Carnegie Tech, who drop kicked from the fifty-two yard line. The second team played well on the defense but had trouble in starting Its offense. Helbig and Wentz proved to KNOX CAFE BASEMENT OF HOTEL Varsity Billiard Parlor Try our Famous Apex Choco lates. The visitors then resorted to a kick forma tion that kept their backfield scattered out in marked contrast to the compact formation of the Penn State backfield. Human repeated his brilliant work of last year In carrying the ball. The quarterback had lots of speed and was the only man on the visiting eleven that could make substantial gains. On one occasion Homan nearly eluded the Nittany defense in running back a kick-off. but Palm brought him to, the ground with a clean tackle. Incidentally It was the longest run of the game, the fleet halfback carrying the ball for tif- ty yards. On the defense (Clarkin, the left end, played a good game, breaking through several times to throw the Nltiany run ner for a loss. He also nabbed several of Homan's forward passes for sub stantial gains. ORCE OF BROTHERLY LOVE IS CHAPEL THEME Taking as his theme the two :undo: mental teachings of The Christ, Dr. Harry Burton Boyd, nester of the-Park Presbyterian Churdh of Erie, gave a valuable and straightforward talk to the students In chapel last Sunday morning. "All men are brothers, and God is the supreme Father of all, are the two ideals that Jesus establiShed perman ently In his few years of teaching on this earth," said Dr. Boyd. He further stated that the greatest force for good in the world today was brotherly love. Dr. Boyd served from September. X 1917, through June, 1919, as senior chaplain of the 188th Division overseas, and he made plain his statements by citing several of his own vivid experi ences. A. Fries of the depart ment of Animal Nutrition recently re turned from Sweden where he spent the summer and has some very import ant and interesting reports concerning his investigation of the several insti tutions he visited and the experiments that were under way while ho was there. While on his trip Professor Pries took the Opportunity to visit Cam ',ridge University, England, where he was most cordially entertained by Pro fessor T. 13. Wood, head of the Agri cultural .School. 'Professor Wood Is par ticularly interested in animal nutrition Investigations and he has had a new type of respiration calorimeter con structed. With the assistance of his colleague, Professor J. W. Capsbick, he is carrying on calorimetric experiments with swine to determine the net energy value of the various feeds, influence of age and type on the production. The kind of work that these Englishmen are experimenting with is In a large and almost new field of work. Many nutrition problems of common inter est were discussed with these scien tists. In Copenhagen a stop was made to see and to have a talk with Professor Holger Moligard, a prominent physio logical chemist who is the director of the physiological department of the Royal Agriculture Experiment Station at Copenhagen, Denmark. Professor Mollgard Is carrying on nutrition in vestigations with milk cows, using a : respiration chamber. This enables him to make complete balance experiments and indirect calorimetric investigations, thus determining the net energy value of various feeds for milk production. tie has obtained some very Interesting and valuable results. This Swedish authority is a great ad mirer of the late Dr. H. P. Armeby and his work, so he extended an added degree of hospitality to Professor Fries, who had been associated with Dr. Arms by in his work. Professor }Musson is! the originator of the Feed .Unit system which has been used as a feeding stand ard In Sweden. He began with Drab- Ural feeding experiments many years ago, but soon realized the Importance and need of more refined methods, and hence he has been gradually employing more exact scientific methods to sup- element the purely practical experi ments. The interesting fact was found that, although the animal nutrition problems have been attacked from several angles, by different methods, and by investiga tors in different countries, yet the main results have been convergent and are practically identical. The problem Which in occupying the minds of these prominent Europeans at present is the net energy of feed for milk production es compared with . fattening, and It was a source of pleasure to Professor Fries to find that the results obtained through the first year's experiments with milking cows at the Institute of Animal Nutrition were practically Identical with those worked out by Professor Hausson from his experi ments covering many years, and with over 100,000 cows, FYES' FOR Groceries.
