CHANGES EFFECTED IN
LIBERAL ARTS' SCHOOL
Separate Department of Philoso
phy Is Created—E. W. Runkle
To Act as Head
At-the meeting Of the Board of True
toes of the college in August, the for
mation of a separate deportment of
Philosophy In the School of Liberal
Arta was decided upon.
Formerly Philosophy was Incorporat
ed In the curriculum of the department
of Education and Psychology, but with
the formation of the new School of
Education, It was decided to establish
a separate department of Philosophy,
Dr. E. W. Runkle has been appointed I
head of the new department and he
will be assisted by Dr R. H. Dotterer.
Last year the trustees of the college
voted to form two new departments
from the old department of liistory,
department of History and Political
Science and the department of Eon
! nomlcs and Sociology were accerdinglli
created. At the opening of college last I
week these now departments 'Mule.;
functioning.
I Dr. A. E. Martin has been Metalled
m the head of the deportment of 810-
tory and Political ISclence. This de
partment is In charge of the Pro-legal
curriculum and those majoring In Efle.
tory and Political Science.
Dr. 0. F. Boucke the acting head
of the department of Economics -mod
Sociology. He Is being assisted by.Pro
fuser C. W. Easek. who Is handling
the administrative details. The depart
ment has charge of the Commerce and
Finance curriculum and those majoring
In Economics and Sociology.
The reasons for the change are num
erous. The old department was too
complicated to be handled efficiently
by one head. Aside from this consid
eration. the subjects wore too diverse in
character. The change conforms with
the practice in other inetitutions and
was made at the request of Dr. Martin
and the recommendation of Dean C.
W. Stoddart.
The new order of things will permit
Dr. Martin to engage in research work
and to do acme history writing that
he has long been planning.
