The organimtion finally adopted teas along the lines similar to that under which the Motive Power Club of pre-war days existed. Ally student interested In rail road work 'nay Leconte a member and take part In all meetings as before but he cannot hold °Mee. All officers must be elected from students regularly en rolled in the Railway Meehanical En gineering COUrtie. ft is recognized that the problems pertaining to railroad work are not of the same chaacte• as those eneounter ed is other engineering fields, but, on the other Imiid, are of paramount inter est to ail engineers. For this reason it Is expected that there wit he quite number of engineering students and students taking business courses who will become affiliated with the club. A complete program is being planned to cover all meetings of the second sem ester. This program will consist of talks On railzgod subjects of the day, given by members of the /acuity and prominent railroad officials. It is also planned to have everyone of the stud ent members take an assigned part at each meeting In the presentation of a paper or magazine review that will en able them 10 become accustomed to presenting technleal papers before en gineering ...Miles and similar organiza tions. This subject was of Inter est to those present because one of the tests was carried out only the tiny prev ious by a her of students In the department. Such a club is one that will no doubt aid largely in preparing the students in the Department of Railway Mechani eat Engineering, in an all around way, for entering their profession, but at tendance at Its meetings Is not confined to these particular students. The meet ings are open to everyone who is Inter ested in the subjects that will be dis cussed in them. COLLEGE ATHLETIC PLAN CHANGED SIX YEARS AGO Just six years ago Penn State's Ath letics underwent an almost revolution ary change. At that time the Alumni Advisory Committee, atm' an extended investigation of local conditions and methods in force in other institutions, decided on a system of football coaching that was to become effective• in the fall of 1916. at the same time that the one year residence ruling was to become op erative. lit Its form of organization the new system provided for responsible supervision and direction not only for the playing season but for the entire college year. It afforded the benefits of basing Penn State graduates on the coaching staff, and. by having as one member of the staff a graduate of broad football experience from another college. It would operate to bring to Penn State's style of play the best ideas of other football systems.
