One Mile Team Again Wins Relay
As Record Falls—Hammit and
Whiting Third in Hurdles -Lamb
Places in Pentathlon.
Each of the seven track men,
who wore the blue and white last
week at the Penn Relays, rendered
a good account of himself.
Our relay team, composed of
Post, Brown, Mason and Dolbin,
easily won the one mile relay in the
record time, for the class, of 3:29-
1-5, with Swarthmore, Pittsburgh
and Fordham finishing in order.
This time would probatly have
been lower if Mason or Dolbin had
been pressed.
Brown took the lead, and by run
ning his quarter in 52 seconds, he
finished 8 yards ahead of the gar
net runner. Brown and Post were
over anxious in passing the baton,
and in the confusion lost 5 yards.
So with a 3 yard lead Post did his
best to regain the lost margin. He
recovered a yard of this, giving
the baton to Mason 4 yards ahead
of Swarthmore. He was timed at
53 1-5 seconds. Mason ran well, and
had little trouble increasing the lead
to 15 yards. Time of quarter 52 sec
onds. With this lead Dolbin con
tented himself in equalling Mason’s
time, and broke the tvpe 20 yards
to the good, thus breaking the class
record, and winning for the second
time in two years the one mile relay
for State.
In the 120 yard hurdles, Hammit
won his heat. Kelley of Southern
California, the record holder, won
the final in a fast and clo >e race,
with Simpson, Missouri and Ham
mit at his heels. Time: 15 3-5.
Since this was the fastest field in
this country, Hammit did well to
land third place.
On Friday Whiting kept well in
the front by taking third place in
the 440 yard hurdles. This race
was hard fought from start, to fin
ish, Ferguson, of Penn, taking the

ily improving, and much can be ex
pected of him in the future.
Lamb finished fourth in the
pentathlon. Berry, Pennsylvania,
winning with 9 points, Worthing
ton, Dartmouth, second 15 points,
McMasters, Pittsburgh, third 16
points, Lamb fourth 17 points.
All the events were closely contest
ed. In the broad jurpp, Lamb was
decidedly off form, taking sixth
place at 18 feet, 2 inches. Lamb
took second place in the javelin.

the 200 meter race Lamb tied for
third. Time: 23 second. In the
1500 meter run he took fourth
place. Time: 4:41 3-5. Lamb won
the discus, throwing it for a distance

of 113 feet. Lamb deserves great
credit for this showing, since he
had very little time for training.
“Bill" Martin is well pleased with
the showing of the boys in this
meet, and from the way he has
the entire team in hand, much can
be expected from our track team in
the remaining meets.
On Saturday, May 8, Lehigh
comes to New Beaver for a dual
meet, and the students, for the first
time this year, will be able to see
our strong track team in action.
