This course will consist of lectures, practical demonstrations with the flour mill ing equipment of the college, and laboratory work in the chemical analysis of cereals and baking tests to determine the quality of flour. Mr. B. W. Dedrich will have charge of this work. Professors Brenneman and Moyer are arranging, in cooperation with the Society of Automobile Engi neers, to conduct an exhaustive in vestigation of the strength of screw threads. At a joint meeting of the Board of Trade and the labor unions of Scranton, held under the auspices of the Department of Labor and Industries, on April 24, Mr. A. T. Brown, of the Department of Mechanical Engineering gave an address on "Safety First”. Mr. Keuhiman, of the Lockwood Hardware company. New York, gave an address before the senior architectural engineers on the sub ject of "Styles and Qualities of Builders’ Hardware”, April 28. Professor Diemer spoke at the recent meeting of the National Efficiency Society held in New York City. His subject was “Edu cation in Scientific Management". Mr. J. W. Dietz, manager of the educational department of the Western Electric company, Haw thorne, 111., was in State College on Monday, May 4, to secure men from the seniors in electrical engi neering for positions with his com pany. Prof. D. L. Markle spoke on the subject of “Instrument Transform ers” before the engineering exten sion class at Connellsville April 2. Dr. Harry T. Collings, of the German department, has recently published through Heath & Co. an edition of Keller’s “Die drei gerecn ten Kammacher," with introduction, notes and vocabulary. Seventeen sophomores at St. John’s College at Annapolis have been suspended for hazing while 54 of the sophomores of Lafayette suffered a similar fate. Lacrosse seems to be about the only sport left for students desiring to lead a quiet and peaceful life. Pitt freshmen took sweet revenge for the egg bath bestijwed on them by their older brethren. A careful ly planned sophomore dance be came instead an excellent exhibi” tion of Mexican warfare and now the whole matter is being taken up by both the faculty and the student senate. At the university of Coloiado the interests of all athletes is cent ered at present in the tryouts for Sigma Delta Psi, the honorary athletic fraternity. Candidate are required to equal stiff records in 14 events, including track and field work, swimming, punting, and baseball. ALUMNI William Schlottei Kriebel, T 2, was married to Miss Mary B. Hew itt on April 13. L. C. Barton,’ll, considered one of the most valuable men in the Cincinnati district sales office of the Westinghouse company, was married on Apri l 29 to Miss Eliza beth Baker, of Lewisburg, Pa.
