Soccer Trip Completed
The soccer team finished the fall
season last Wednesday when it re
turned from a successful trip to
Philadelphia. Greatly handicap
ped by the absence of Captain
Savery who is the keystone of the
team, and Tobin, another star, State
made a showing of which her fol
lowers may be proud. One victory
in three contests does not give any
idea of the strength of the team.
Three games in four days against
fresh teams is a great strain. In
this case the Westtown game was
exceedingly rough and the players
in no condition to play one of the
best teams in the country on the
following day.
The Westtown Academy game
was lost one goal to nothing. The
field was heavy and' the referee len
ient in imposing penalties. As a
result, the contest resembled a
football game with men being taken
out from behind every minute.
The ball was in Westtown's terri
tory the major portion of the game
and State, aside from the one goal,
played better than did her oppon
ents.
Tired and crippled from this
hard game, State met Haverford on
the following day. Haverford,
well coached and with a well bal
anced team, outplayed State. The
lineup for State was the same as
that published last week for the
Girard College game.
Just - what -will•—happen —when
Haverford is played again with
Tobin and Savery in the game and
the team fresh, is hard to say; but
those who know expect a close,
cleanly fought game when the
teams meet in the spring. A recess
will be taken from now until early
in the second semester when prep
arations will begin for the spring
schedule. With Haverford and
Harvard playing on New Beaver,
the championship may be decided
before State rooters. The team
has the material and if a coach can
be secured, State will be in the run
ning.
Basketball
Regular daily practice is rapidly
developing several of the second
string basketball men of last year
into players who promise to fill the
shoes of those lost by graduation.
The serious losses occured at
center and guard. Former Capt.
Hartz and "Pete" Mauthe were men
whose equals cannot be developed
at once but by present indications
these places will be filled by men
.who will by no means materially
weaken the line-up.
At present Wilson 'l5 and Jester
'l5 are the most likely men at the
pivotal position. Both are fast and
hard players and at present it ap
pears a toss-up. Hay and Metz
gar of last year's team are again
out as guards and will doubtless

give the other candidates for these
positions a severe battle to replace
them.
Capt Binder and Park 'l5 remain
as forwards with several new men
on their trail for these honors,
Gockley 'l4 in making a strong bid
for this position as are several of
the Sophomore candidates.
The first training table selection
consists of Capt. Binder'l4, Gook
ley 'l4, Hay 'l5, Wilson 'l5, Park
'l5, Jester 'l5, Metzgar 'l5, Hart
man 'l5. McCoy 'l7, Davidson 'l6,
Shelley 'l6, Beshop 'l6, Bowes ,16
Neely 'l6 and Nissley 'l7.
The manager again wishes it
emphasized that this is not the
complete or final selection and that
men whose names are here given
will be supplaced, by others if their
work on the floor merits it. Or the
names will be added and at least
four more will be selected for the
training table.
Interclass Cross Country
The annual handicap cross coun
try run will be held next Saturday
at two o'clock. Any student in a
four year course is eligible. The
race will be run over the old course
of five miles and will start and fin
ish on New Beaver Field. All
entries should be handed to Mana
ger DeVoe or Coach Martin before
Thursday morning. Any man fail
ing to enter on time will not be per
mitted to run.
The score of classes will be re
corded in the usual manner and the
members of the winning team are
usually awarded their numerals.
Prizes are offered annually by the
business men in town. The handi
capping will be liberal and afford
ample chance to any, man who is in
any way capable of running to win
a prize.
The Glee Club
The Glee Club is working and is
getting into shape for its proposed
trips during the course of the win
ter. So far, little definite can be
said. Arrangements are under way
for a short excursion to Altoona
and Tyrone between semesters, and
for a more extended trip to Phila
delphia, Camden Ardwick some
time during the second semester.
Probably about the middle of Feb
ruary, the annual Glee Club concert
will be given here. The well
known "College Quartet" will leave
for Panama on the sixteenth of this
month, sailing the following day.
After the favorable mention we had
in Pittsburg we are looking for big
things from our singers.
Cathedral Choir Saturday
The third number of the Y.IM. C.
A. entertainment course the Cath
edral choir will be the attraction at
the Auditorium Saturday evening.
There are eight performers in the
company and the concert promises
to be one of unusual merit.
