FRESHMEN LOSE
Bellefonte Academy Defeats 1917

Last Saturday Coach Hansen
and a squad of twenty-five freshmen
journeyed to Bellefonte together with
a band and a special train carrying
over three hundred rooters to the
game with Bellefonte Academy.
The day was all but ideal, as a
steady drizzle of rain fell dining
the entice game. The two teams
lined up and fought evenly in
the fiist quarter, neither side
having a chance to score owing to
the soggy condition of the field.
In the second quarter on an ex
change of kicks the freshmen were
driven back to their twenty-yard
line and on a fake kick were thrown
for a loss. Here on an attempted
kick the ball was blocked and Beer,
of Bellefonte, fell on it for the first
touchdown. The freshmen kicked
to Houlium and he made the sen
sational run of the day, going sixty
yards through a broken field before
being donned. The half closed
just as he went over for the second
touchdown but they were unable to
kick the goal.
During the second half the fresh
men outplayed their rivals but a
fumble in the third quarter was
scooped up by Beer their speedy
end and with a cleat field he ran
for the third touchdown. The
first year men braced and advanced
the ball into the Academdy lads'
territory. By straight line plunges
Humble went over for their only
touchdown. The game ended in
darkness without any further score.
The freshmen at times out-played
Bellefonte but the team taken as
a whole played poor football.
Thomas was easily the star of the
game and together with Humble,
Edgerton and Fair played the best
ball for the freshmen while Beer
and Houlium were the shining
lights for the Academy. Lineup:

The66o freshmen were prepared
for college in 345 different schools,
266 public high schools and 79
private preparatory schools, Fifty
freshmen attended two or more dif
ferent schools, most of them begin
ning their preparation in a public
high school and completing it in a
private preparatory school. Five
hundred and four freshmen were
wholly prepared in public high
schools; 110 were wholly prepared
in private preparatory schools; and
46 were partly prepared in public
high schools and partly in private
schools.
Of the 345 different schools that
have prepared students for the
freshmen class, 283 are located in
Pennsylvania, and 62 are situated
outside the state. One hundred
and ninety-eight schools have but a
single representative.

prepared 214 freshmen, among
