WEDNESDAY, MAY 28, 1913
During the pro-
press of several of
Sportsmanship our recent athletic
events, a certain
faction of the onlookers participat
ed in actions which deserve severe
condemnation. This group of men
took it upon themselves to hoot
and jeer at both teams engaged in
the contests. They not merely
were content with expressing their
attitude toward certain kinds of
play, but they also made all sorts
of remarks when an error occurred,
or when a play did not satisfy
them.
Such action deserves to be abso
lutely denounced, and it is evident
that if the offenders do not cease
in their vicious practice, that public
sentiment will soon put an end to
it. Such behavior plainly violates
all rules of good sportsmanship,
which itself must be possessed by
the student body of such an insti
tution as ours.
Visiting teams, who judge our
student body mainly by the general
impressions they receive while
here, and by its attitude on the ath
letic field, must surely take home
pith them not a very favorable
conception of our good sportsman
ship, when a few of our representa
tives indulge in such misdeeds.
An' appeal is hereby made to
every student to aid in obliterating
this obnoxious practice. If a man
forgets himself, call his attention to
the fact immediately. Let us treat
our visitors and guests with all the
courtesy that is due them, and let
it be known to the outside world
that the students of Penn State are
courteous gentlemen and true
sportsmen, who do not tolerate any
actions which will not come up to
their established standards.
Grade Reports; Notice of Failures.
At the end of the second semesL
ter official notification of any fail
ure in examination will be sent out
as soon as the grade is received,
and such notices will be mailed to
the student's State College address
until Monday, June 9th inclusive;
after that date these notices will be
sent to the student's home address.)
Any student who leaves State
College on or before June 9th
should therefore leave his summer
address at the postoffice, with a
written request that his letters be
forwarded. The Postmaster is re-
quired by law thus to forward let
ters upon request.
If any student intends to be at
State College for a week or two
after June 9th, and wishes notice
sent to his State College address
after that date, he should leave a
written request to that effect at the
Registrar's office.
If any student has changed his
home address since he filled out his
matriculation blank in the Regis
trar's office, he should call at the
office immediately and furnish the
Registrar with his correct home ad
dress. This change of address
should be attended to not later than
June 2nd.
There is little likelihood that
these important notices will go
astray if every student thus takes
pains to have his letters sent to the
proper address.
As heretofore, but a single grade
report will be made out for each
student at the end of the second
semester, and this report will be
mailed to the student's parents or
guardian.
A Word to the Wise
The coach and track manager
make the request that those stu
dents who exercise with the
weights do so hereafter some place
other than in the ring used by the
Varsity men for that purpose,
The soft and spongy condition of
the ground and the broken and
partly destroyed ring resulting from
abuse has been such a hindrance to
the weight men in the last two
meets that unless this notice is
heeded the apparatus will reserved
for track men only.
1915-1916 Soccer Match
The annual soccer match between
the two underclasses will be played
at 2 o'clock. Friday, May 30th, on
New Beaver Field, instead of on
Monday, June 9th, as was previously
announced. Despite the fact
that there have been no inter
class match'et — thi - s — s - pring; ar - - -
rangement of schedules and no ex
cuse from drill making this impos
sible, the practice of the two teams
would seem to predict one of the
most interesting scraps of the year.
Be on hand and support a good
game and your favorite team.
Interclass Baseball
The seniors refused to be check
ed in their winning streak last
Tuesday afternoon when they de
feated the sophomores in a five in
ning game by the score of 3 to 2.
Both twirlers, Leidel and Mur
phy, pitched good ball the latter
holding down the sophs to one hit.
