The Forum
On Tuesday evening, April 8, the
new literary society was formally
organized and the following officers
were elected for the first year:
President, W. H. Hillary 'l3; vice
president, H. R. Rosen 'l3; secre
tary, L. R. Warner 'l4; treasurer, H.
P. Young 'l3; sergeant at arms, M.
Fishtein 'l3.
Meetings are held at half past
seven o'clock every Tuesday even
ing in Room Kof the Library, and
anyone interested may attend the
program part of the meeting which
part precedes the business meeting
of the society.
All students, who have ability in
literary work and debating should
make an effort to become members
of "The Forum". The qualifica
tions required for membership are
that all applicants should have
been on the scholarship list pub
lished by the Registrar, and should
have marked literary ability; and
that all applicants, whose names
have not been on the scholarship
list, should have shown marked lit
erary ability either in preparatory
school or in college.
An invitation is here extended to
all students with literary ability to
hand their name, class, course, and
information concerning their col
legiate standing and what they have
done in literary work, to a member
of the society that may be consider
ed for membership.
Twenty American colleges will
furnish 400 students to do routine
work on United States Navy ships
during their summer vacation and
at the same time the men will re
ceive special instructions including
a series of lectures on various tech
nical topics. These men must have
completed two or three years'
courses in their respective colleges.
The object of this project is to
benefit the men by . eepening t.eir
interest in the navy and giving a
practical extension of their technical
training, thereby stirring up a new
recognition of naval needs and re
quirements over the United States
as a whole. .
On Sunday evening, April 27th,
Dr. Charles E. Barker will address
the 6;30 meeting and present the
topic "Physical Fitness". Dr.
Barker wrs Physical Adviser to ex-
President Taft during his presiden
tial term of four years and is a man
ofcountry-wide reputation. An
interesting article may be found in
the April issue of "Association
Men" dealing with Dr. Barker's
four years' association with Mr.
Taft.
