The Kansas college girls have fixed the standard for the "ideal" young man, the possible husband, and throughout the hall in the col lege Young Women's Christian Association buildings there is post ed the list of things that go to make up the Kansas ideal man. Here they are: Height, 5 feet 11 inches. Weight, 159 pounds. Chest, 40 inches expanded, 34 inches contracted. Waist, 30 1-2 inches. Must make a good appearance, but not a dandy. Must be jolly, accommodating, considerate and a true sportsman. Must be a good conversationalist, but not a flatterer. Must revere and respect the aged. Must show courtesy to men and women Must not smoke, or be guilty o attendant evils. Must not sneer at religion or joke lightly of it. Must not recognize a different standard for men and women. The physical tastes of the girls are averages taken from the reports of hundreds of girls of the state, each girl being asked to submit the measurements of what she considered her ideal man. The nine command ments for the ideal young man were chosen from hundreds of state ments of girls who were asked to specify the requirements each would make, and the nine items most mentioned in the letters were ones taken as the average ideal the young man. Professor F. M. McMurray of Columbia University, addressing the Civic League in Yonkers Thurs day night, said: "The most back ward educational institutions in this country today are the women's colleges. They are worse than primary schools. They are deal ing with stuff that never counts in life. In fact they contend at Vas sar, which is typical at other wom en's colleges, that the further you get from real life and usable know ledge, the more cultured you be come". Dr. Holmes' Book The J. B. The pur pose_of this course is to_provide opportunity for the presentation of the results of the experimental work in progress at this institution and to discuss problems of impor tance to agriculture which are not considered in the routine work of the class-room. The course will provide for one lecture a week and will cover a period of two college years. This will make it possible for the men engaged in research work to present quite fully the results of the expert• ments completed or in prog ress and to also offer a comprehen sive series of lectures on general topics without repetition. It is proposed to secure the services of prominent outside men to speak on such topics as Rural Economy, the Rural School Problem, Farm Credit, Neighborhood Development Work, and other topics of impor tance to rural life and the develop ment of the best manhood in our college students. Agricultural Notes Mr. W. H. Hillary, Senior in Landscape Gardening, has been em ployed to direct the pruning of the shade and park trees at Clearfield.
