McQuigg visited lead, zinc and copper smel ters, gold and silver refineries, plants in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York from March 15th. to March 29th. At the same time the Junior Miners and Mining Geologists in charge of Mr. C. A. Garner were making a survey of the Osceola Mining Com pany, Mine No. 5, near Philipsburg and visited several other mines in that neighborhood. Dr. E. S. Moore was in Washing ton, D. C. recently visiting the U. S. Geological Survey with a veiw of taking up geological work in this section of the state in co-operation with the U. S. Geological Survey. Pennsylvania is one of the foremost States inthe prod'uction of farm made butter and it is the purpose of this contest to assist in improving the quality of this class of butter. The samples are analysed and judged and prizes and certificates will be awarded. Professor W. H. Tomhave, of the Department of Animal Husbandry, will attend the First National Con ference on Marketing and farm Credits in Chicago from April Bth to 10th and give a talk on "Co-Op erative Livestock Marketing". He will also visit Purdue University and Ohio State University on this trip.
