    Alt Heidelberg Scores a Success.
"Alt Heidelberg" Foerster's dra
ma of student life in Germany, was
well produced by members of the
Deutscher Verein last Tuesday
evening. The success of the under
taking lay in the fact that the cast
was well chosen, each member be
ing admirably suited to his part.
The actors showed enthusiasm and
a knowledge of German life and
thought.
Miss Margaret C. Wilson de
serves much credit for her interpre
tation of the part of Kaethie, the
innkeeper's niece. The character
as portrayed showed delicacy in
handling and good judgment.
Prince Karl Heinrich, one of the
principal characters of the play,
was well done by A. J. Helfrecht. Dr.
Juettner, a role of moods and feel
ing, found excellent expression in
the person of H. L. Shryock, K.
Szlupas created a good deal of
merriment in the role of Valet Lutz,
whose conventionalities and snob
bishness were a source of laughter.
The character of Innkeeper Rueder,
in the person of J. Fine, was well
executed and brought many a roar
from a receptive house. The other
parts, while not so difficult as those
above mentioned, were played with
freedom and enthusiasm. The stu
dent scenes gave the public an op
portunity of witnessing the German
student as he actually is in his leis
ure hours. "Gaudeamus", "Alt
Heidelberg" and "l3undeslied" were
sung with the characteristic spirit of
German students. All in all, the
performance was a credit to the
Deutscher Verein, to the German
faculty, to the college as a whole,
and especially to Messrs. Mentzen
thin and Marquard, both of whom
gave much of their time for the
most successful production of the
German society.

Insoluble plant foods arc cheap in the beginning but may be dear in the end.
We feel good when we hear that the soil contains enough Potash to raise 5000
crops, but we feel tired when we discover that it will take 1000 years or so to make
it available. We will be converted into plant food ourselves long before that.
