ENGINEERING NOTES The School of Engineering is di recting the industrial work of the high school in Bellefonte, and has appointed Mr. G. H. Reside:•, of the Industrial Engineering Depart ment to have general direction of the work. , The Department of Industrial Engineering of the School of En gineering is carrying on a model school in vocational instruction in connection with the State College. The pupils are drawn from the State College high school. Messers C. G. Grabe and K. P. Fuhrmann, senior electricals, are showing some remarkable results with their thesis work on smoke consuming apparatus. Thus, they fill a vessel with thick black smoke which normally remains a long time in the closed space without mater ially thinning; but when they apply their electrostatic forces the vessels clear almost immediately. They are now building enlarged apparatus to be placed at the stack at the Thermal Plant. This work is a part of a series of investi gations concerning the smoke nui sance which is being carried on by the Engineering Experiment Sta tion. Interclass Basketball The new regulation governing inter-class basketball provides that each team shall play but three games during the season. The number of games in this inter-class contest was decreased because of the fact that comparatively little interest was shown by the students at these games. Up to this time three games have been played and three remain. The attendance at these games thus far has fallen far short of expectations, and, if the remaining three are no better attended than the previous ones, the financial reports at the close of the season will read about the same as in former years, The standing: Lost Pct. 1000 1 500 1 500 1 00 1914 1 1913 1 1915 1 1916 The "Collegian" The weekly paper of the student .body of Penn State cannot be run this year on the basis of one man in every three paying for his subscrip tion. The "Collegian" should be made a semi-weekly edition, at least, but steps to make this so can be undertaken only by your sup port this year. Some time ago we asked all persons not wanting the paper to inform the Manager, now we ask for your subscriptions. The price of the paper is $1.50.
